Thumbs up Racing Beat Peripheral Port Housings

Hey All,

Anyone have experience with Racing Beat's P-port housings? How do they compare to the Mazda Comp housings?

thanks,

Hakan

I think they are pretty good but they make a little less HP.

I am not sure in comparison to a factory PPort but Ken Scheepers ran the RB's and some "home-made" versions of the Mazda's and using the same TB, electronics, etc. and the Mazda "type" were better.
He quit running the RB housings last season due to the difference.

Well, Im not sure that its more conservative, it might be a little. the difference i think mainly between any hommade housing and the factory ones are mainly in the exhaust ports. The MFR housings have no inserts and the volume doesnt increase in them, also they are in a different place in the hounsing. I talked with Rob at pineaple who has pretty extensive experience with all the housings and basically he said for an engine like a good road race set up the MFR housing will usually always make about 10hp more than the best hommade ones. (we were talking about 12a). The MFR 12a housing aer supposed to be bolt together 290-320 FWHP with a IDA carb and a pretty good exhaust. this should give you a pretty good idea.

About the only thing the homemade versions really have in common with the factory Mazda is the angle and approximate area the intake comes in.
Looking at the angle that the Racing Beat comes in at the windage from the rotor has to create turbulance. I think it probably would not matter much in a forced induction but on an NA there is nothing to resist air traveling out the intake.
At least when Ken and I were looking at them and talked about it that sure seemed like a very likely scenerio.
It obviously is not horrific because they do make some real good power. But when given the choice Ken picked the home mades.
Paul Yaw has the factory pport timing on his web site BTW.
