In my opinion this is going to be a MESS! I see what NOPI is trying to do as far as gain a wider audience, as well as more sponsors for the series and racers. I know they have good intentions, but seeing how the rules are written so far, it seems like it's going to be so complicated to keep things even, as well as difficult to monitor. The tech guys can barely keep up with the import rules as is, due to all the different engine/turbo configurations, now look how much more confusing it is with allowing 8 cylinders in. Just within the 8 cylinders there's multiple small block sizes, multiple big block sizes, normally aspirated, NOS, mulitple different superchargers, different turbos, etc.). There's just TOO MUCH **** NOW TO KEEP TRACK OF! What is NOPI gonna do? Are they gonna quarantine the cars after each race to check each and every one of them for legality? I guess we'll see what happens, I just hope this all works out for everyone involved, especially the racers, they're the ones building cars to race them and compete. Nothing sucks more to a racer having to change an entire setup multiple times within one season to keep up with the rules. This cost $$$ as well as time to change things around and then test it to make sure it stays competitive. Just my opinion.

I thought the reason the Sport Compact scene was started was to keep up from having to line up against these guys with the V-8s. I guess it will just be what last season was with the world trying to catch or keep up with team Titan. Now give them a bigger motor and all you have is a smaller version of a Celica funnycar with a smaller body on it.

If they allow this then we need to be allowed to run a 4 rotor.

The rules do say that aftermarket blocks are permitted, why not aftermarket 4 rotor blocks?
After all it would not exceed the 530ci requirement now does it?
Just my 2 cents.

"Rotary: 2 and 3 rotor rotary engines allowed. (NO BILLET BLOCKS OR FE MOTORS)."

Actually they state no billet blocks for rotaries. Not that I've ever seen one but why do they limit the rotary and allow all others to do so. Also what is meant by FE motors? I don't see any problems with the V8's as long as they keep it competitive but there is where the problems will arise is keeping it competitive. Teams are going to be shuffling around when they keep changing the rules to keep all the different engine combos close and that is going to cost some teams big money. Anyways I have always loved running against V8 powered cars more than I like running other imports. But that's the nature of the beast some people can't make big power with a small displacement motor so they have to go bigger. I'm in the thought of being the little guy running down the big dogs. Look how dominant the 13B powered rotarys were early in the sportcompact scene. Then all the piston teams started changing over to the six cylinder motors to keep up. That's just the way things go sometimes I guess.

looks they aren't allowing the M/T Drag Radial in the Pro Street tire class. That is sad as they are the best hooking real radial out there.

It will be an interesting 2006. They are trying to gain some of the bigger car manufacturing names to start putting big $$$'s in this even more (ie Toyota).

EDIT: I dont know WTF a FE rotary is... when I read "FE motor" the first thing to mind was fords FE... which obviously is completely different from the rotaries. So, blah.

Anyway, seeing as v8s do SOOOOoooo well in RX-7s, I dont get what the problem is.

2006 NOPI PRO OUTLAW RWD Rules

• WEIGHTS / TURBO LIMITS:
.80 lbs per CC of displacement for 2.9L and smaller
.85 lbs per CC of displacement for 3.0l and larger
1800lbs is the minimum for this class.
Example: 2.0L = 1800 lbs. (1800lb. min.)
2.4L = 1920 lbs.
3.0L = 2550 lbs.
3.5L = 2975 lbs.
Air cooled = 1800 lbs.
2 Rotor: 1900 lbs. with up to two-power adders.
3 Rotor: 2000 lbs. with up to two power adders.

3-rotor (3.9L) should have advantage here, 2000 lbs vs 3300 lbs for 3.9 recip, and no turbo size limit for rotary. But i've rarely seen a rotary do well in any class on speedtv..... great butts though.

I think what they are talking about when they say "FE" they mean the Renesis engine. I dont know why that would make a difference anyway. We can always sneak the FE gut into a cosmo block.
