N/A Dyno Results
Here are a couple graphs. Interesting results.
Brian's 1990 N/A
139.9 RWHP 109.1 Ft.Lbs. torque
Engine mods: Rebuilt July 2002, Street ported, HKS high flow intake, Racing Beat pre-silencer and downpipe.
Zach's 1987 N/A
130.2 RWHP 110.3 Ft.Lbs. torque
Engine mods: Rebuilt in April 2001, RP50 Cat Back Exhaust, RX-7.com high flow cat and downpipe, RX-7.com high flow intake, Cold air box, 10mm Ultra plug wires.
Enjoy!
Edit: Any mod suggestions on getting some higher numbers on the 87, besides street porting, internals, ect.? Or is that basically all I'm gonna get? This is what I expected. I was told not to get my hopes up before I went. Aim low and you have a better chance of hitting! (nice philosiphy for life, huh)

Here is an old dyno result of mine. Had a air/fuel ratio of around 10-1. Its been fixed and was putting down 167rwhp at my last dyno session. I've done some more work, and i'm for 175rwhp out of my n/a 90 https://www.rx7club.com/forum/attach...stid=491823ing CJ
Hope this works

I get asked this so much, i typed it into a document, so i could copy and paste. So here is the general run down.
Dual 2" manderl bent exuast (No colletor), cold air intake with K&N. Removed double throttle, and coolant flow to TB. Ported black elbo before TB. Ported upper, middle, and lower intake manifold. Pineapple Racing 6 port sleeves with removed 6 port actuating rods and rods through the sleeves. An extremely mildly ported 13B built by Pineapple Racing. Jacobs ignition wires, Short shift kit, with FD shift ****, T2 fuel pump, Hi-6. and a Apex S-AFC.
I have'nt had the chance to get to the strip, but i'm realy hoping for some hight 14s. So far i've ran a 15.1@94 (5?) on some 225/50/15s. With some of the things i've done with it lately...i should be in the 14s. Only time, and the strip will tell. I'm shure with some drag radials, i could run 14s easy...but i want to do it on true street tires. CJ
Feel free to ask/im me any questions. I'm still pondering doing a nitrous system...

So I guess I'm at the end of my NA motor upgrades :sob:
Off the top of my head the only upgrades I can think of would be e-fan, s-afc, maybe try a header (despite being told not to).
Maybe I'll build up another engine.
Thanks for the suggestions.

Nobody finds it interesting that the 90 has only 9 extra HP when it doesn't have a cat and is streetported(not to mention the 90 makes 14more fwhp to begin with). The 87 does have a catback and cold-air box but those are usually minimal mods.

I thought the interesting point was how close my car was to the 90.

I wonder what the deal is with the 90? We just rebuilt it too. The only thing I can think of is his catback. Its all rusted with packing falling out of the rust holes. Maybe more backpressure created from that POS exhaust than he thinks...

I just came back from the dyno with my GXL. I was tuning with a SAFC I just installed. I went from 136 peak hp to 146 by removing some fuel from about 3.5K on up. We were of course logging the A/F, it was the tailpipe sniffer type, I was shooting for 13 - 14:1.
Mods on the car are K&N cone, MSD ignition, RB header, hi-flo cat, Trust catback, and the aux. ports working off the ACV relief hose.

These runs are very interesting indeed. I'm very surprised that the 90 S5 without a cat only saw 139 RWHP. I would have expected more. I guess you didn't run the sniffer when doing these runs? I would have liked to have seen the A/F numbers. I wonder how much an AFC would help here?
Both runs show a very smooth climb until the upper ranges. It looks like the 87 has an ignition problem between 5500 and 6750 RPM. You mentioned that you have magnicore wires, but have you done anything else to the ignition? How fresh were the plugs?
The torque output of the S5 engine is what I would expect from the VDI intake. S4 engines with the strait runners often show higher (and more consistant) torque numbers.
I'll be adding to this thread in 8 days... I'm heading to the dyno on September 4th with my 86. Current mods include:
rebuilt S5 engine, Street Port, RB Header (port matched), High flow cat, RB cat back, 6 port sleeves, RP Intake Kit, MSD 6A on leading, Apexi AFC, RPM actuated VDI and 6-ports.
I'm hoping to do better than the S5 posted above. *Fingers crossed*

I just changed the plugs about 2000 miles ago on the 87. I don't know whats going on in that range.
We used the old rotor housings in the 90. They were in decent shape, just barely starting to flake. He was at about 1200 at the time of the dyno. I know he said he pushed it a couple times during the break in period. I guess he was tempted a couple times.
I'm looking forward to seeing your results.

How the hell do you figure that I have more torque than power? It was quite apparent that he dynoed It Incorrectly.
At the time I wasn't sure to tell him how many cylinders to set It on (yes I know Rotors ).
To my understanding If dynoing on Leading Coil Pack set It to 8 cylinders and Trailing would be 4 cylinders. Correct?
Hopefully Protech Performance can do a better job on ACCURATELY dynoing my FC!
Do they have an A/F readings equip. there?

Jeez, the numbers on the '90 sound pretty low. I would be concerned. Yet, your 87 looks nice and stout. I hope to make similar numbers after I get my catback in October.
