Motor runs, but next to no oil pressure?

I have a S4 13B T2 motor that has over 150 000 kms on it and it has good compression but when it was in the car running at idle, the oil pressure gauge read 0, if I were to rev it up a bit, the oil pressure would increase to about half way on the gauge.

This motor will be taken apart, street ported and rebuilt using new seals, now my question is, why would there be no oil pressure? Could the rotor bearings be worn? If I were to just rebuild it with new gaskets and seals, will this fix the problem?

Thanks for any suggestions

Joe

sorry to state the simplistic, but it's always best to start there ...

have you checked the oil pressure sender and all wiring associated with it?

did you try using another sender or just check the wiring?

is this on the stock guage??? ive heard there a bit dodgey after a while. Get an aftermarket guage and sender (even a cheapie it doesnt mater) just slap it in and check it all.

Im pretty sure you would have some pressure at idle... if not you should be able to see it warming up pretty quick and then hearing some metal on metal scraping noises and then it woudl stop on its own...

yeah, the very fact that the engine runs and revs and he didn't mention the scraping noises or that it locked is why i'm convinced that there is oil pressure, just a problem registering it on the gauge. the turbo porbably would have dropped dead as well ...
