More FD fan mod questions. Please reply...

I finally found the link about the FD fan mod. I am doing this next. I want to understand it a bit further and make sure that I operate this mod properly. Please don't think of these as dumb questions. When it comes to my 3rd gen, I have to be 101% because it is so fragile and expensive to replace engines, turbos, etc....

- I know you can trigger the radiator fans when you turn the headlights on and when you turn the ac on. I also know that you can lower temps by turning the heater on but can you turn the mod fan switch while you are driving? When I am in the highway, the car temps are really low - around 160/180 F. On a stop and go in the city, it gets really hot - around 210/230 F. I usually turn on the heater to blow out the hot air.

- Can you or do you switch it on when the car is off? I have read at KDRotary's site that it can run up to 10 minutes after the car has been turned off.

- If you turn it on while the car is off, after ten minutes will the fans shut itself off?

Anything else you think I left out, please speculate.

****Yes. You can flip the switch, and the fans will go on instantly. Of course, if you're up to 230F already, the fans are already on.

****I don't think so. The switch has to be hit when the ignition is on for the the fans to activate. If you run the car with the switch on for 2 minutes before you turn off the car (I think it is), the fans will run for 10 minutes after shutdown.

****No, if you turn it on while the key is out of the ignition, I'm pretty sure it doesn't do anything. And yes, the fans will shut themselves off, they won't run forever.

On more thing. If you have a small, racing style battery, it may not deal with the fans always running very well. It's drained my battery twice now, so I removed the fan mod. I had the fans set to always on, just ground, so I think that was the problem. The fans would come on while cranking the car, which I think was too much load for the smaller battery. I'm going to try it with a swtich and see what happens.

I have the N-Tech small battery and never had problems with it draining on me. The trick is to not let the car sit idle for long. The alarm system is what runs the battery down. It also
does not hurt to put a trickle charger on it
once a month overnight.

You may be right about the idle time. I don't drive it daily, and sometimes not even once a week, so that could be it. Interestingly, I just left it for 6 days w/o driving it, without the alarm on, and the battery was still drained. I'm puzzled as to what could have used that much juice (and no, no lights were on).
