ls1 coil pin identification
ls1 coil pin identification
i'm not sure exactly what coils i have on my car. i was told they were from a vette, but they're different than the ls1 replacement coils i just got.
4 pins, pwr, gnd, confirmation, and signal. confimation we don't have to use, so i just need to know where the other 3 go. figured i'd check just to make sure i don't fry them before i get to use them. so as you're facing the connector like in the 3rd pic, anyone know what's what?
thanks

wait, now im confused. are you asking how to wire it up? but you have a pintout for it?
power run to something switched with a large fuse, ground self explanitory, signal to whatever outputs the ecu you have calls for. im not familair with the coil but it must have a built in singe channel ignitor, sounds pretty stright forward to me
going to need atleaast 2 of them, if not 4 though

yea, 8245
if i don't get it by tomorrow, there's a shop in town that has a bunch of ls1's. i can go look at their harnesses and determine what's what. but i didn't wanna wait 'till tomorrow

i know what it takes to wire them up. i just don't know what order the pins are labeled in.
which pin gets the signal, which gets the ground, etc... that's what i'm after

the coils on the car now have a different plug. they look identical to the one's that come on some of the 5.3's. i don't know if they share the same coils as the vette, or if they were just falsely advertised as vette coils.
but in any case, $65 each isn't bad for multi-spark coils.
all the benefits of multiple spark, and more consistant spark due to there being 2 coils. and that's on top of running them sequentially, so they only have to fire half as much as with a wasted leading. all very good things. be even better as soon as i can plug them in

colors are the easy part, but these didn't come with a harness, so i still need to know which pin gets what.
thanks for the effort though. i'll drop by the shop tomorrow and have a look.

The Camaro and Vette LS coils the connector is on the wire side. The truck engines the plug is on the back side, same pinout.

just fyi:
i put the msd's in the leading slots today and the car feels great! can't tell much of a difference under boost and high rpm's, but the low end picked up quite a bit--especially in the higher vacuum areas where the afr's are in the mid-high 15's.
$140ish for 2 of the coils = a fine deal.
