Something tells me that Ken and Jesus will be back and forth on this all season. This is gearing up to be a really good season for rotaries in this class.
Ken has to be as shocked about this run as Jesus is. How the hell a Neon got 2nd is beyond me But that won't be that way for long

That's because if they don't improve on their 2nd run the time remain the same as the 1st round of qualifing.

Jesus was first place last year. Ken was third instead of second because a 25 cent throttle cable stop broke
He still gets bummed out talking about it.
Him and Jesus are good friends and are real good examples of guys that can compete with each other and maintain their friendship.
There does not always have to be a hateful rivalry in these situations. Now this fugger in the Neon has got to go though!

This really sucks! That fugg'n Neon got to run it's last raceby itself and Ken and Jesus had to run each other for a spot on the final where Jesus got eliminated and then Ken beat the Neon. If Jesus would have got to race against an empty lane then he would have faced off with Ken and we would have had 1st and 2nd.
That is a real **** off. Ken ran his fastest time of 10.25 when he ran against Jesus. Damn that's quick for all motor! http://www.nhrasportcompact.com/2003...finals.html#am

The last time Ken dyno'ed he got 316 HP I believe. I would like to know what he was getting out there at the track. He launches at 11k which is insane. That G-force really takes a beating as well as the rest of the drivetrain. It would seem like he would break a lot but he doesn't. He just eats up rear mains like they are going out of style.
After he gets back and he pulls the motor apart the bearing will be toast. Bearings are pretty cheap though as opposed to nearly anything else that could go.
That Neon has me a little worried. This guy is getting some speed at almost 134 MPH. That is a pretty fast FWD.

Ken told me he was launching at 11K and shifting at 12 K. His last dyno was 330 RWHP!
BTW. It's amazing how two fellow competitors can compete against each other at such a professional level and still remain complete friends. Even more funny is the fact that Kilo(Jesus) built the motor for Ken's car.
Great sportmanship from two rotary role leaders in racing.

Ken called just outside of Baton Rouge headed home and he asked me if there was any talk about this going on!?!?!?! I told him he had his own thread now
As you can guess he is really jazzed up over it. Anthony Bulger (his one man pit crew) made the trip with him.
He said he was getting a lot of TV crew attention and it all sounded like it was a little overwhelming.
He wanted to know how things were coming along with the housing resurfacing and all. Told him I am waiting on the "diamonds" to arrive.
Oh, and he trashed the clutch on the last pass! He felt real bad for Jesus that he did not get to run the last pass to get at least 2nd. He said that they just could not get any more out of it. I bet he gets more out of it come the next race though.

They Let the Neon run unapposed 2 times
so the rex's would have to run each other
Quess NHRA did not want a 1-2 finish for the Mazda's
It's ok Jesus will swicth to EFI and alcohol or methanal
He is a old school racer, so going EFI is a big hurdle for him..But he has some help now with that
Even "Fast EMS" offered him some sponsorship to use there EMS but they still don't understand rotarys timming so thats off the table for a while

Kilo's motor was down on compression more like 40psi on both rotors and he still ran that good. He was experiencing lean out problems with the new carb set up during the week so that might have weaken the motor.
