Imports already in the 6s?!
Imports already in the 6s?!
Ok I thought Siguel had a decent shot at being the first Import in the 6s, but it seems the feat has already been acomplished. I guess I might be behind on this news but I havent heard anyone else say anything. On the IDRC website it says that the Nelson Hoyos Focus has already run a best time of 6.83 @ 199 mph! The sucks that a 4.7 liter domestic V6 got to be the first "Sport Compact" in the 6s. This sucks Scanton got the first Import over 200 in that V-8 THING and now a domestic V-6 steals the show with the first 6 second run
If they're just going by the whole sport compact thing, there were a pair of Probes, full tube chassis cars which regularly dipped into the 6's at over 200mph. And that was 5-6 years ago! They would have fit in perfectly with the 2002 rules. And yes, they did use V8's. Glad they're getting rid of them next year.

What I think sucks, and I am sure I am not the only one, is that the import scene used to be a place where anyone could go and race and compete. You didn't need a huge sponsor and all kinds of money if you were willing to get your hands dirty. Now I see it closing up like the domestic scene has already done and pushing the little guy out. Its not quite there yet, but it looks like that's the way its going. Its probably evolution and probably also good for the sport, but bad for the little guy that wants to build a car and race...
FOCUS with a domestic produced V6 is no IMPORT
edit:that must be a rumer there is no news of this run
I checked all my sources.........
The real <------------------------------------ challenge is a IMPORT in the 6's......Which has been done I hear in Japan in a skyline but there tracks are shorter then US tracks so it does not really count
Untill they bring the skyline over and do it here in the states.

Why is this dumb? Because how many jap. Import (cars) can you go out and buy right now come with v8's? Why do you think the 3 rotor should be banned? Just curious, is it because it was never imported?

There is a 4 cyl VW with a paxton\payton (or something along those lines) that broke the 6 sec barrier a couple of months ago.
I am not against anything, however there should be a weight to engine size rule IMHO.

There are 3 chambers, each rotor spins 1/3 of what the shaft spins at. So there is 666cc in each rotor. How many times does the engine fire per rotation ?

Well that's one of the reasons why we all love the rotary engine so much
I heard mid to late last year that Siguel already broke the 6 sec. barrier before anyone else. I think he ran a 6.98 or something. Of course this was in Puerto Rico so maybe most people haven't heard about it here in the U.S.
