Arrow Importance of pressing In new Bearings...once?

So Aaron Cake and I finish Porting the other day. I wanted to go ***** out and get new Stationary Gear and Rotor Bearings...

I wipe the site and lube It. Sure enough - one of the two Stationary Gear Bearings mis-align by means of the Bearings not lining up to the window (approx 3mm out according to the tab at edge of Bearing). It's suggested to deal with It and file the oval wider. I on the other hand suggested to re-press them to get the balance right b'c I'm a PITA...I prefered opposition.

Problem arose...It's suggested that Bearings are to be pressed In ONE time and one time only. Should a second attempt be made - you will sacrifice the structural Integrity which I could see happening to the soft Bearing. So Instead of dealing with It - I toss out the Bearing and I have to order a new one, no big deal.

Has anyone attempted to re-press them and consequently have the Bearings come undone awhile In the Engine? A 101 on Bearings? Regardless, I like to get your take on any experiences and the like. Thanks!

My thoughts are that removing and reinstalling the bearing will shave too much off the OD of the new bearing...And it will be difficult to remove the bearing without destroying it. But you knew this.

Stationary gear bearings is what we're talking about...And tossing a rotor just because of a munched bearing seems to be a perfectly good waste of a rotor.

I've done this a few times pressing in bearings, take a squair and trace down a line from the tab on the back side of the bearing. use this line as a site to line up the bearing with the ress in the hub.

LOL. That's what was done. It rotated as it was being pressed in.

I used a one touch press for the Rotor Bearings...It was with the Stationary Gear Bearings I used a mechanical press. How It altered along the way Is beyond me. I wiped and oiled the site...marked the line as gambone has suggested.

I think after I preloaded and than applied the press, It may have Inadvertingly caused this with every repetitive reload and apply until the Bearing was completly pressed In.

Whoa! Exhausting question.

Are new Bearings to be pressed In - are they a one time deal? A second time around will deem them no good? Details and such would be an asset right about now. As I mentioned, a new one Is on the way...I'm asking for the sake of knowing. Thanks.

I had a nightmare when I tried putting in new bearings against what turned out to be some good advice. I ended up ruining a rotor. I didn't even consider using the new bearings that were pressed out. They don't normally need to be replaced even if they show a little copper.

My thoughts exactly. Needless to say I have since ordered a new Bearing and used a hydraulic press.

I shutter to think of tearing down my Engine a second time and to find the Stationary Gear Bearings fused to the E-Shaft yet - a 2nd time.
