I made an exciting find with this setup . At WOT and with the valve left open something very interesting happens:

Clean air from the combustion chamber is forced back into the adjacent chamber and this air displaces most of the remaining spent exhaust gases in that chamber .IE some air is lost from the compression stroke , but as it displaces inert exhaust gas and the charge air ends up virtually free of exhaust gas , the remaining clean air makes the same power .

End result of this is that the engine makes the same power with less air ! Or to put it another way ...the engine uses less fuel to make the same power !

This means that we not only get better fuel mileage from cruise , but in all other drive modes as well !

Have you tested this or are you guessing based on what you are seeing in regards to chamber volume decreasing while the ports are still partly open? The reason that I ask is because when those ports are open, what you are describing doesn't happen. The air in the runners has enough velocity that their mass keeps the air moving into the engine even though the chamber is decreasing in size before the ports close. At lower rpms, if you left the auxiliary ports open, you'd see a reversion.

Yes I have tested this .....after noticing very strange behavior from the engine . Firstly I noticed that at 0psi the engine ran very rich . I went to tune it but found that it was actually using less air than it would normally at 0psi . Yet it was still making the same power ....very strange . Next I did a compression test and was horrified to discover that the compression was very low ...yet this brand new engine runs great ....starts instantly and make very good power .
I pondered these things and then remembered about what happens when you leave the apv valves open ... The engine loses power and air puffs back into the intake below 6000ish rpm.
Putting all this together led me to the only possible conclusion .... air is tracking in the reverse direction and displacing exhaust gas at high engine loads. Only at rpms below 6000 though - note the apv closes off my port when it opens anyway. The effect is most apparent between 2500 and 4000rpm.

For some reason I can't post a pic. on this site ATM . I wanted to post the diagram of my design plus that of a design from Pratt & Whitney which I believe could make my design unpatentable . Here is link to rx8 club where i have the pics up : https://www.rx8club.com/rx-8-discuss...2/#post4853285

I have basically abandoned any further attempts to progress this due to the similarity with the Pratt & Whitney patent . I tried to contact them but was met with a computerised email wall !
