How important is an FPD in a fuel system?

How important is an FPD in a fuel system?

I'm putting together my fuel system and I'm wondering how important an FPD is? It's going together right now and I haven't ordered one yet, I wasn't sure if it's worth the extra time and $150. I've seen quite a few aftermarket fuel systems without one, but I'd rather get an experts opinion. How much of a difference would it make? What kind of catastrophic failures could occur without one?

I forgot to explain my setup. There are 2 1600cc secondaries, each with their own fuel rail, and two 720cc primaries in one rail. -6 AN SS fuel line and fittings throughout.

SX Engineering specifically states a PD is not necessary with their FPR.
