A couple of friends were at the local speedway here or as it is known 'Homestead International Speedway' and they brought one out to demonstrate it. All I can say was that everyone was blown away from the performance of the thing. My friend was there with his shifter 125cc and could not believe that such a small motor could harness that much power. The guy was lapping the field after about two laps. My friend is aware of the rotary motor and what it is capable of but was still freaked out about the performance. I told him you would not believe how easy it is to almost double the power of the motor without even having to spend a fortune.

Check out this Wankel go kart. It has 10 times the power of that one!

I wonder if the Atkins production 1-rotor engine could be mounted in a go-cart...? They're designed for water-craft.

Snowmobile CVT and keep that bad boy pegged at 8K
Single rotor PP with a bike carb and a big stinger pipe, no baffles.
Scare the competition into submission.

Not a rotary, but these guys are runnin a megasquirted turbo charged B&S lawn tractor engine. The guy on that team posts as gielamonster on http://www.grassrootsmotorsports.com/ message board
I don't think any racing organization would let you run in thier classes but it would be an absolute freak of... mechanics in all the best ways. Good luck on finding sticky enough tires. To put it in perspective the gixxerkart has just over 100 hp and is almost an unusable amount of power http://www.gixxerkart.com/

The link in the first post says 4 STROKE WANKEL. I would like to know more. How do they do that?

as in:
intake
compression
combustion
exhaust
?
I'm assuming the XR-50 does it the same way a mazda rotary does. The rotary is technicaly a 4 cycle engine. Most people use "stroke" interchangably with cycle because in a piston engine the stroke/cam determines the cycle. The only difference is that a wankle is doing all 4 at the same time.

OK. I think of the combustion in a Wankel as 2 stroke. I thought they had something new.

Edit for clarity: Even 2 strokes use all 4 cycles. I am surprised that it could be compared to a four stroke engine. Is this because they are using side ports like a Renesis? I bet they are.

Fresh gases initially flow through one end plate, stream through the rotor, bearings and shaft cooling and lubricating, before passing into the combustion chamber through the opposite end plate.
This is similar to a two stroke using the premix to lubricate the bottom end. In the XR-50 they are also using the premix oil/gas to cool the rotor which is done with engine oil in RX7s. So it's side housing intake. I'm not sure about exhaust though, they brag about low emissions which would lean toward a side port but I see the exhaust system they show for the XR-50 is perfectly round which makes me think regular ole hole in the housing, perepherial port exhaust.

Either way, it's stinkin cool and when I'm old and senile I want one on my Rascal
