hardened Stat gears.

Hi guys,

Im building a relatively 'peaky' 13b bridgeport NA and want to make sure its capable of a few additional RPM. I understand fitting stat gears from a turbo II is a good idea as they are hardened from the factory.
My question is does this also apply to the FD stat gears? part number 3743 10 500. Will this fit a 1991 UK spec Iron, and 1988 GLSE high compression rotors OK?

Cheers guys

Steve

if i recall correctly, all factory stationary gears were hardened from S5 on up, so you should be good with the FD gears - although, from what i understand, the FE gears are a bit less expensive (though it requires a minor modification).

Not sure what your model designations were in the UK, but you're good with an '88 rotor set - but if it's case where you have yet to acquire rotors, look for '89 and newer rotor sets.

go with the rx8 stat gears and Eshaft. they are very cheap, light(the eshaft), and come with brand new bearings. the rx8 stat gears have the "race bearings" in them and are hardened for higher rpm operation(like the FD ones if not better). and using the rx8 eshaft means you dont have to modify your old one. at 200 bucks how could you not just go pick up a new one. oh and the stat gears are 88 and 112 bucks for the 2 gears, that includes the new bearings.

and as far as getting the 8 stat gears to fit the only problem is that the oring gland is no longer in them because it was moved to the irons. so what most people say it just put a small ammount of RTV between the gear and iron. havn't heard of any problems so far.
