full P-port + side ports ?????
full P-port + side ports ?????
i remember a while back someone posted pictures of this manifold they were fabing-up for a turbo engine, that used a full P-port and the side ports to feed the engine. think it was running on alc.
anyone have pictures or experience or even heard of this kind of set-up????

just search with half peripheral ...
i know of 2 that i can remember readily. Judge Ito has a 13B (no trubo) and i remember a gentleman that had a 20B and i think it was a turbo setup - forgot his username though.

I have a friend.. one of the rotary gods.. but not widely known.
Evilaviator knows him as well.
He did a lot of hill climb stuff in the 70s and early 80s, with a Lola chassis, and a 13B with street ported primary, Bridge secondaries, and PP terciaries(?) or as those who have seen it.. 5th and 6 ports.
He had Bosch bly over and program a fuel injection system for it in the late 70s.. maybe early 80s at the latest.
It has a 6 barrel progressive linkage throttle body with multiple injectors at the throttle body. (I have Pics somewhere) When he started opening the throttle the primaries opened till 1/3 throttle when they were WOT. Then the secondaries (Bridgeport) opened up to 2/3 throttle when they were WOT in addition to the primaries. Then the last 1/3 of the throttle was the PP opening up.
Needless to say, it was in the day of dual tuned megaphones up and out the back of this thing.. and it was hideously loud. AND it made Hideous amounts of power.
Lets just say wayy in excess of anything you read about in RB and other literature.
He won a lot of hill climbs like Chimney Rock with the car. And after a short time.. they created sound restrictions because of THAT car. And he had to create a nest of pipes trying to meet sound regs. They got progressively tighter with each year, and eventually he had a large truck muffler on back, and around that point it was soo down on power he pulled the engine, and got silly.
It had a FJ1200 motor with an airshifter, and a supercharger. Running on methanol.
Changed to 4 wheel drive and 4 wheel steering on the lola chassis. Dont ask I dont know how.. but I did see him take it to several SCCA Autocrosses at McDill AFB.. and it was a hoot. All 4 wheels smoking, and then it would spin violently in the first corner when he cracked the throttle. NoT for an autocross.
Anyhow.. he still has the engine. Its still in his shop. Oh yes.. Dry Sump as well. I need to get off my *** and go buy it from him one of these days. Only problem I have.. is trying to figure out WTH to put it in.

Please PLEASE locate those pics and post. PLEASE
SPiN, are you talking about John Finger? He was pitted next to me at the Mitty two weeks ago; he was driving an ex-Mark Martin #6 Winston Cup car. He was selling off a lot of old Mazda racing apparell like shirts, hats, and even driver suits.

I have heard that if the port timing of the primaries (IE - streetported part) overlaps with the port timing of the secondaries (IE - P-ported part) your engine will idle like the engine is fully ported to the largest of the two port timings (IE - idle like a p-port). This is because of the intake will comunicate with the exhaust on overlap regardless of how you close off the secondary port for low speed operation.
Cast manifold that used to be available in Japan, not sure of manufacture, maybe SCOOT. And the engine on the stand looks to be the prototype for the cast manifold (engine owner is SCOOT).
