Engine rebuild help

Hi all. I am about to have my 1990 GTU engine go out for a stock rebuild, maybe street port if I have the enough funds for that. But, I need some recommendations on the rebuild process itself. Besides the engines internals, what are the recommended external parts and/or peripheral components should I replace while I have the engine out of the car and toredown. Or, what upgrades are popular during this process? Items such as water pump is a must, but, what else specifically? Upgraded aluminum radiator? Hoses? oil lines? Pulleys? Can somebody help me out with a rundown or list of items that should be replaced as a general rule of engine r&r. Thanks.

Most of that stuff can be upgraded in stages. Just get the engine itself done first.

Ask about mild or street porting in this thread. All I know is it usually causes the intake ports to remain open longer than stock, and it also smoothes the insides of the port for less restrictions in the air flow. Others will be able to tell you more than I could.
