I prefer mechanical when it comes to fluid gauges as they remove a possible point of failure. Otherwise, I like electric temperature gauges.

A quality electrical will be more accurate than a mechanical in most cases.

IMO, i like the elec ones. there is an added point of [possible] failure with the liquid ones, ie the sending units, but there is also a chance the machanical guage will leak.

now you don't want oil or gas possible leaking in the cab of the car now do you?

Much faster response

You can mount the probe and sending unit wherever you want, then run the wires into the cabin vs. a limited distance for the mech. because of the short lead of the probe wire.
