A Dumb N00b Question
I dont have an RX-7 yet, but I am looking to get one for a project car. I like the 2nd Gen RX-7s (i like that Porsche 944/ Nissan Z styling).
Anyways, I like the Turbo II cars becasue they are fast, but, they are also expensive and not easy to come by in my area. However, there are tons of non-turbo gen 2 cars around here for cheap (like under $2000, in descent shape).
My question, then, is as follows...
How easy/hard is it to convert a non-turbo car into a turbo one. Can I just yank the turbo, manifolds and plumbing, injectors, and ecu from, say, a wrecked Turbo II, or will I need to tear down the engine, modify/replace the rotor, etc etc.
Also, if it is hard to convert, what kind of other performance accessories are available for the Gen 2 cars, and what kind of power gains could I excpet to see if it were kept in normally aspirated form.
Im sure this question has been asked a zillion times before, and Im sorry, but the F!*$&#@ seach feature absolutely refuses to work for me!
Thanks a bunch, and I hope to be joining you as a proud RX-7 owner soon.

It would be cheaper to buy a turbo II than convert an NA to Turbo II specs ... they changed a lot of things between the two
I'm not too sure as the UK had different specs but heres a short list
N/A have a 6 port engine - Turbo II's have a 4 port lo comp engine
Different brakes , different stud pattern for the wheels , uprated suspension , different hood with scoop for intercooler ... the list goes on
Basically you'd need to buy an N/A and a bent turbo II and reshell one into the other.

Screw that
Ill just find a cheap Turbo II car
Also, what kind of upgrades are out there for a N/A car, and what kind of performance gains can be expected?

Even the 12a first gens left more potential for increasing the overall performance. In part because the first gen was lighter and used a 4 port motor. Also with the carb models there is no need for a Haltech or another expensive similar upgrade.
So if money is tight you might want to consider that idea.

There are links to what you're asking in the 2nd gen forum > FC faq.
Here's a direct quote for two routes you could take, but I agree with everyone else in saying it's cheaper to just buy a TII.

Can I swap a Turbo/Jspec/13BT/etc into my N/A?
Yes, check these links:

What Turbo kits can I add onto my N/A RX-7?
There are no kits currently made, you would have to custom build one. Here is some info on that: https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...&threadid=26647
