corner seals

I did a search on "corner seals" and didn't get a whole lot. From what I understand, the solid ones are more durable than the stock ones (rubber inserts). However, the stock ones are supposed to seal better. Has anyone ever had the stock rubber piece fall out or give them any trouble? If they hold up ok I just can't see the advantage of going with the solid ones. It seems like they would cause more engine friction and wear the side housings a little more. Does anyone have any valuable info to add?
