ceramic apex seals

I am considering going with the ceramic apex seals but just foung out that they cost over 3k for a full set for a 20b. Any thoughts of if they would be a good choice and worth the money. I hate to drag out old questions but i am also not sure if i want to run 2 or 3mm seals. I am planning on running the motor to around 9000 rpm.

I am having a 20B built to make over 800 HP with more than 20psi with VP fuel. This will obviously not be an every day driver but more of a drag/dyno/show car. I am installing nitros mostly for looks but will use it if my HP goals are not achieved. I have been told that the ceramics are superior but the 2mm seals are not recomended for over 20psi boost. I will not be tuning my self for a while and will be depending on the tuning ability of Marcos Acosta since i am running a microtech ltx-12.

My project is going fairly well, i have nothing but the actual engine build and tuning left to pay for but a lot of work left to do! I am still open for all engine building suggestions as well as builder recomendations!

If Marcos is going to be doing your tuning, just get him to set up your engine for you, he is one of the best in the states.

Like you said, 2mm are usually better but have their limits. Don't use just 20psi as a base number, there is a recent thread in this forum called something like "most boost on a stock 13b" or along those lines. There's guys out there running boost as high as 32 psi on a rebuilt STOCK internal engine, so it can be done with the right tuning. Would I do it? Probably not. If it were me, and I were to throw out a boost limit for 2mm seals, I would probably say around 24psi. This is for stock seals of course. 2mm ceramic are sooo much better.

I would probably use the 2mm ceramic (but like you said... $$$). Then again, what's $3000 when you're talking about having a professional 20B install done with tuning by Marcos? Sounds like pocket change in a project of this magnitude/quality.

Installing the nitrous system mainly for looks? I can book a psychiatrist appointment for you if you would like? Seriously though, if you won't be needing it, or using it, don't install it.

If you're not using it, then it's just dead weight

I may have not mentioned that this car is being built primarily to promote my performance store so it is also geting a full stereo system, chrome 19" wheels along with some other bling. Just not a ricer though, i will back it up in hopes of showing some of my customers the right way to build a performance import! That said, hopefully you understand why it is important that the nitros kit be installed. I will be installing 2 bottles, one for the injection and the other for an intercooler spray bar!

i'd stick with non ceramic unless you have new rotor housings....

ceramic is not appropriate for street use, and someone wiser than myself informed me of this
