Thumbs up Carbon free REW13B

Mr. Coleman, What is the best way to keep the rotary (REW13B) engine carbon free?

There are several ways. Water injection, Water/meth injection, meth injection or convert your engine to run on E85

Dunno about the 13B, but us Rennies always say "a redline a day keeps the carbon away"

Though I haven't done it myself, convert to no OMP and mix 2 stroke oil with gas.
Or use an adapter from Rotary Aviation to pump 2 stroke oil with the OMP.

Burning engine oil is a major contributor to carbon buildup in rotary engines.

Disable EGR, evaporative/crankcase emissions and run a good premix.

I run 50:1 ratio (No, doesn't smoke) Quicksilver premix and Lucas Top End Lube/Injector Cleaner instead of premix every once in a while to keep the injector tips clear.

If you keep the stock oil injection (as I did) keep the engine oil very clean.

Very clean engine inside, even the exhaust ports will be carbon free if you port to positive relief. Just a dusting of carbon on exhaust port sleeves, turbo/manifold.

This is important for best performance and reliability as it eliminates carbon build up in apex seal groove and subsequent sticking of apex seal as it crosses the minor axis which leads to early ignition of the charge in the compression phase.

Mazda found high rpm horsepower gains from eliminating this apex seal sticking in the Lemans car by using specially formulated clean burning Idemitsu premix.

I agree BLUEII, Idemetsu worked wonders on the 787B car.

Thanks
