Best thermocouple probe out there?

So I am in the market for new thermocouple probes, did a search and found not much talk about this subject on the forum. I plan to log my EGTs, so no pyrometer gauge kit will fit my needs; all I need are a pair of good, thrusty, reliable, fast acting and high temp capable thermocouple probes. Then I remember somebody advising on which were the best thermocouples out there, so I digged on my search and found this:

https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...ip#post4876294

Is there somebody who might think otherwise about these "teamrip.com" thermocouples:

http://www.teamrip.com/accessories.html

or who has got a different idea of which are the best thermocouple probes out there? Mind you, I am not doubting howard_coleman's advise, in fact, I will follow it if nobody else advises otherwise. Also, I thought that it will be nice for this subject to have its own thread. Any takers?

Here is howard_coleman's comment, for those too lazy to click on the link given above:

i use two Teamrip.com K thermocouples each situated approx 1.5 inches from the exhaust port flange. they output to a small circuitboard box with two Analog Devices AD595 chips that convert the millivolt signal into 0 to 10 volts. i then divide the 0 to 10 to 0 to 5 volts and run it thru my datalogit. so i get an Exact EGT in each of 400 cells complete w maximum and minimum. in addition i can strip chart my front and rear egts and relate them to afrs, tps, fuel pressure (which i log).... you name it.

recently i hooked up two Greddy EXT analog egt gauges, i hooked up both my 5 and 10 volt outputs to 4 digital multimeters and also ran them thru my laptop to read both volts and temperatures. i then set up my video camera and went for a drive.

after extracting all the data and posting to an excel spreadsheet i constructed line charts and then attempted to draw some conclusions...

anybody want two Greddy EXT gauges? seriously, i will part w them for postage as they are useless compared to digital.

secondly, i found my Jeff Feltman-designed (Jeff48) circuit box to be dead on.

i have found that as you get down to one bar boost you can have great afrs but 1800-1900 egts and that one or two degrees of lead timing will get you back to 1750 to 1640 where you need to be. you will never pick that up on a cell by cell basis w an analog gauge.

and it is essential... there's lots of blown motors out there that if properly instrumented would still be running.

serious rotory guys will spend some time this winter acquiring the teamrip (absolutely instantaneous) thermocouples ($45 per) and build themselves (or have some geek friend build it) a circuitbox (cost is almost zilch).

you need to know your egts at the port on a cell by cell basis.

the circuit is on the forum search Jeff48's posts. thanks to Jeff Feltman for a dead accurate tuning device that is essential.

egt update:

winter has descended upon wisconsin and my car is in the barn awaiting disassembly, analysis and, among other things a direct port (LIM) water-alcohol injection system...

i logged over 6000 miles on my pre turbo Team Rip thermocouples, including a few spike readings over 2000 degrees. they are fine as is my motor. i continue to be amazed at how absolutely instantaneous they are.

i note that AEM now offers a module that will convert the signal of 4 type K thermocouples.

Thanks for pitching in Howard. I plan on using them with the aussie wide-band box:

http://www.wbo2.com/2b0/default.htm

I have one of their earlier 1.5 NTK boxes (bought pre-assembled, ready to use) and still swear by it, but their new 2b0 box is so much better, what with their 3 K thermocouple amps with ambient temp compensation and logging capability. This is another product that rarely, if ever, gets mentioned around here. For its cost, I believe it's the best deal out there, its online literature is pretty thorough and its components are very simple and serviceable, not that they need any, as my 1.5 box is well over a year old and has seen rain and shock, plus a reverse bat connection (blew an on board fuse, nothing else), and it's still working as new.

So this is it, these ARE the best thermocouple out there? As nobody else but howard coleman has posted here, I guess nobody knows of a better alternative to these teamrip.com probes. The end all. Nobody?

Looking for an egt gauge and ran across this. Really neat and cheap priced. You can also data log up to 4 channels straight from the gauge. They also sell exposed tip thermocouples.

This thread is finally going somewhere! Please, keep'em coming! BTW, how do you guys think the redlinegauges.com probes compare to teamrip.com's? Not really interested in their gauges, tough, as its price, added to that of a "normal" wide band box (Innovative, AEM or what have you) is enough to buy me the aussie wide band box and a nice used laptop that I can dedicate to the car for controlling the PFC and data logging just about every parameter that I can get sensors for.
