Arrow Best Bang For $600?

Just got my RX-7 and wanted to know what would be the best bang for $600. BTW it's a base 86' w/140k. The mufflers are shot but i have a friend that could find a way to get those without spending money.

TUNE UP!!! Change the oil, not just in the engine, also the tranny and diff. Replace the old bushings, change the sparkplugs/wires, set the timing, clean the injectors, flush the cooling system, flush the brake system, change the belts and hoses, rotate the tires, check/replace the brakes. Do all the little things before you do the big.

Oh yea... exhaust, then springs/shocks.

for a minute i actually thought i had posted this ...

optimize what you HAVE before you try to add anything!

then go with exhaust and suspension.

It just had a tune up 6,000mi ago. Have papers from the owner. It could probably use the bushing kit which will be polyurathane and the injectors could be cleaned but everything else is taken care of. Provided that i get the new master cyl put in.

definitely use a header from Racing Beat! also, definitely stay AWAY from PaceSetter anything!

in terms of bolt-on systems for the Gen II cars, honestly, i'm not sure what all your options are. i would blindly recommend Racing Beat simply because i believe in the quality and i love the sound of their systems, but i'm used to Gen I cars. the only Gen II i ever had remained stock until it left the family so i never had the chance try an RB exhaust on it.

sniff around the Gen II forum for a while and see what's best.

what are your ultimate plans for the car?

My engine build will ultimately encompass about a third of that budget

New shocks and fixing your trashed IRS bushings will do wonders. I had chance to drive a S5 with a decent suspension (as opposed to worn-out sloppy clunkjunk) and was amazed. It felt like a decent car instead of one of those merry-go-round horsies-on-a-spring, like the majority of FC's I've sampled. Definitely want to make sure the suspension is solid before all else - a car that is fun to drive will be driven more, and driving more makes more experience with the car, and the most important part of a car is the driver.

- Pete (std. 1st-gen elitist comment: IRS = Inferior Rear Suspension. Back to normally scheduled thread)

Depends on how you look at it. I'm perpetually broke, so the "budget" is mainly "however much money I don't spend on rent, insurance, food, and fuel".

Just had $600 left over when i sold my truck and wanted fast info on what i needed to do. That is pretty good info but so far in my mind the high flow cone filter is going on and so is some universal high flow mufflers. If i have any money left over i will probably put the RB header on. That's probably it until i save more money up. This isn't the budget for the whole project just the start. And i will never use NOS because it isn't power all the time and it could f**k up my car to the point that i have to put more money than i payed for the car so that is just stupid.
