Auto decisions.... Glide, th350,C4, Jatco??

I have done aaaalot of searching the last month, and have learned much, but i really want to start a current thread

For starters the car is a REW, gt42, E8 powered FC

after watching a local talon click off 9-10 second passes with low traps and looking completely unviolent doing it there is no way i am sticking with the manual

What i want out of my car is 10 sec, maybe high 9 capability, while pushing at a max around 600rwhp

So just give some input

I could go with a KEAS Jatco 3sp
--good--
-reasonable price
-direct bolt on
-lots of fast cars in AU using them, swear by them
-light
-can race in classes that i couldnt with a domestic trany

--bad--
-will it really hold up?
-so far away for anything, like support

TH350, C4, glide
--good--
-def can be built to hold
-trany work is cheap
-very good support

--bad--
-hassel and time of adapter plates, converters, flexplates, ect
-heavier
-cant race it some class because not an OEM tranny

I have found a couple places that sell relevant things for a domestic swap, E&J sells a adapter plate from the 13b to 350 bellhousing.....

FB transmissions sell a whole kit thing, (for quite a bit of money) where they use the rotary bellhousing on a th350, (cut off the th350 bellhousing and bolt up to the front pump)

Hmm, i have so much info to post and ask, but we will start here

One guy I would like to hear from is ErnieT.... he was looking into an auto but went with a Dogbox

glide would mean you need a high stall on your torqueless motor since the 1st gear is 1.76 for the strong one and 1.82 for the weak one. i think th350 would be a good choice...

I'd love to pick up a jatco and have a local transmission shop give it a good rebuild. Some of those guys know the in and outs and know how to make high hp transmissions with little tricks.

Anyhow, these people sell the whole conversion for a glide, 350 or c4

Just a few weeks ago, they were selling the whole conversion for 2,900 but now it's 3,500

High HP Jatco's have billet servos & valvebody and I was told that the case needed to be modified inorder to run some of these newer parts.. I can get the servos & valvebody to buy($1000usd), but Im not sure if the trans shop in Australia will give me more info on installing them... Most guys just what you to buy the complete unit from them and they're not in the business of sharing secrets even though we are from the states and shipping would be a bitch for a complete unit... Jatco's are a good option for the 9.0 guys that need to be legal to run in certain classes that require a stock case, but if you don't care about rules and on a small tire with big hp then go for something else (glide maybe)... I did some serious thinking about the jatco thats in my rx2 and I think that i'll order a lightly modded rebuilt kit from australia and have it installed locally... The car will have a polished, rebuilt twin dissy 12a so the tranny build is not going to be to crazy, reliability & nostalgia is the goal for this project

RoTaRyBoYz,

Just wondering if you have any updates. I have a RX3 Wagon I was thinking about doing the same thing keeping it "Old School".

Thanks
Albert

^ I never followed up on it because I have not decided on what my primary goal for the rx2 is. Right now im doing a full rotisserie resto on my rx3, so that project is taking up most of my time & money. Check out the guys over at ausrotary that run the jatco for more info, if not then Email Keas or Al's race glides

Do you have any links to the Keas web site or e-mail address?

Thanks

Hey Albert here's an old Email I got from the guys at Keas a few months ago..

Baseline model we offer is a 350kW (470hp) Transbrake model. From there you can option up better internals.

Core availability is an issue over here (the Rotary Model has a unique Valve Body and Servo/Piston set) so if your wanting parts then I will need your Valve Body and Intermediate Servo/Piston set for reworking.

Your basically dealing with a C4 that is already 98% rollerised, requires minimal Lubrication modifications and interchanges parts with 90% of all JATCO 3N71B and 4N71B models. We offer tech Sheets for Trade Customers showing our modifications during rebuilding.

Torque Converters
Choice of Hi Stall will greatly depend on Engine Porting/Turbo specs and desired results.
Generally Speaking:
Smallish Turbo and a mild Port= Reworked JATCO 9"
GT35-40 to GT42R with extend Ports- JATCO 7.5"
Larger Turbo and/or Bridge/Peripheral Port- Toyota 7". Highly recomend GAS to stop start line delays during spooling.

Prices in AUS $ (x 0.79 to convert to US$)
2nd Hand JATCO R3A $200.00
350kW Transbrake 3 Speed JATCO R3A $2,200.00
Options
Lift Rating to 540hp- VASCO Plus Billet Input Shaft $300.00
Lift Rating to 600hp- VASCO Plus Billet Input Shaft $300.00, Chrome Moly Nitrided 4 Pinion Forward Planetary Set $300.00, Thick Wall Cast Alloy Pan $220.00

Parts
Transbrake Valve Body Assembly $700.00
Billet Servo Piston $70.00
VASCO Plus Billet Input Shaft $300.00
Chrome Moly Nitrided 4 Pinion Forward Planetary Set $300.00
Thick Wall Cast Alloy Pan $220.00

Torque Converters
JATCO 9" $800.00
GM 8" $1,500.00
JATCO 7.5" $1,200.00
Toyota 7" $1,600.00
