AEM Dryflow Filter- Hurt performance?

Well, the first time I went to the track, I was getting pretty consistent running 16.9's. I have a pretty much stock 88 GTU except for two cheap high flow mufflers and no cats. I know my 5&6 ports aren't opening so I know I'm not reaching full potential as it is. But anyways my question is, I added a AEM Dryflow Filter and now I'm running mid to high 17's, could this filter have hurt my performance at all?

And if so, should I fab up my own CAI or build up a cold air box and just switch filters?

If you replaced the stock airbox with the new intake I would think its related to the fact that you are now pulling hotter air than before. Less dense air charge makes less power.

So should I fab up a CAI or build a cold air box? Also I read something about if the AFM isn't level it could cause the car to run rich and also even cause a loss of power, so I used one of the old brackets and made it level, but I haven't been to the track yet to test it out.
