3rd Gen 5th Gear Lockout and/or Upgraded 5th Gear Synchro
I broke the 5th gear syncro again last night (second time). I have only missed a half dozen 2-3 shifts since installing the upgraded Mazda syncro, shift selct spindle, and Mazdaspeed short shifter, but apparently this was one too many missed shifts.
Does any one know if there is a 5th gear/reverse lockout device that can be purchased? Also, is there a stronger 5th gear syncro that can be purchased, besides the upraded Mazda part? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Also, on a related note: can anybody power shift the 2-3 shift on an FD tranny. This has to be the most difficault 2-3 shifting tranny I have every used. Anyone else have this problem?
Also, for those who are interested, I recently installed the Rotorsports polyurethane motor mount, and they made a huge inprovement with regrds to tranny movement with power on and off. There is nearly no movement anymore. This has significantly helped with quick, repeatable shifting. I do hit a bit of a natural frequency of the interior parts at 2500 rpm though, but this is getting better as the mounts are breaking in.
Thanks much,
Glenn

Try a short throw shifter, the "upgradded" 5th gear select spindle, and "push" the shifter >>STRAIGHT<< forward with an open palm. (don't have your fingers wrapped around the ****) If you have to, do this with your fingers facing upwards like you were pushing a door open.
Also when racing try to keep the seat back straight up & down so that your elbow is bent when holding the shifter in 3rd gear.
If your ridde'n pimp & have to stretch your arm straight then you lose alot of the feedback from the shifter.
I have searched for a 5th gear lock & found nothing.
