Exclamation 3 Rotor 13b!!! Not 20b

i saw this on a site and though id post it and see what people think? has anyone ever heard about people doing this? "13B engine with 3-rotors. Built using a custom manufactured crankshaft and a modified 12A Series 3 centre plate to accept a stationary gear , this is one unique engine."

Yeah I have heard of this before. Pretty sweet. Worth doing? Probably not, other then you getting to say you built a custom 3 rotor which is pretty sweet. Probably no cheaper then buying a 20b though and installing that. I would love to have it though.

in that case, why not make an 8-rotor drag rail? or a 12-rotor? It's all "possible"

I would rather see less rotors and more chamber volume (i.e.- larger and slightly wider)

i'd like less chamber volume and more rotors personally. the smaller the combustion chamber the more efficient and faster burn you get. a big reason why rotaries comparatively poorer gas mileage and emmissions is because there's so much crevice space for air and fuel to hide and stay unburnt. a small 3 rotor, something like 1.8l, is my ideal. for you guys who think you should make 6, 8, etc. rotor engines, those engines are way too long. the longer you make it the more crank flex and block flex you will get. not to mention all the weight you will add to the nose of whatever car you put it in.

Maybe somebody ought to build some 10A rotors with 3 or 2mm seals and single side seals. Don't forget the heat dams. I would love to install 10As in things due to their shortness. A 3 rotor 10A would be even better!

Some of you people were better off not posting. It's really quite stupid of people to shoot down legit, and VERY POSSIBLE ideas just because they're unheard of thus far. I personally am looking to build a 3 rotor for nothing more than testing and the knowledge gained, and before certain people shoot this down too, I have my reasons, and they are not yours.

Uhm... what crawled up your ***? The only thing on here that I could remotely construe as "shooting down" ideas was mentioning that the 6 and 8 rotor ideas would be impractical because of shaft and housing flex, and because it'd be too damn long. Which is pretty much true; 20Bs alone have problems with shaft flex at high RPM from what I've heard.

So really, what the hell? No, you're not going to get shot down for an idea of making a custom 3-rotor... I have some ideas that are even wackier. So why so defensive?

The 3 rotor engine in HITmans RX7 is lighter and smaller than a Mazda 20B engine, so there is benefit right there. Costs are about the same for both as well

Damn, Hitman's setup looks nice.

What were the main differences between Mazda's 13G racing 3-rotor and the production 20B? Well, besides that you can't get a 13G. Anything of note, like weight or length?

i believe the main diference is that a 13G had a dry sump and was peripheral ported.

here is my 10a motor. a PP 3-rotor 10a would be nice!

That's awesome! I really want a 10A now! I've already got a '73 12A that I'm rebuilding in a little while. Oh yeah, the 13G also had a top mounted starter.
