13b VeeDub Buggy... New to rotary

Hello alls...

A friend of mine pointed me in the direction of this forum after giving me a running 13b w/ wiring harness and ecu... all of which has less then 50k on the odo. since a factory rebuild.... to swap into my 74 vw buggy...

ive searched around a bit and I plan on deleting the rats nest among a few other things...

other then the emissions junk and the oil metering pump... what can be deleted from the engine to simplify things? im a rotarty newb as it stands so please bear w/ me....

basically... I'm wanting to make the motor as simple as possible while keeping it reliable... and im not too worried about fuel milage since its going in a car that weighs a tops of 1200lbs... so it shouldnt do too bad...

hopefully this post is in the right location...

Thanks for any help guys

Welcome to the club. I'm also building a Sand Rail with a 1987 13b 6 port. If you want to keep it simple (I'm assuming you have a Non Turbo) take it all off, Smog, fuel Injection, ECU etc. Then put on a Holley Carb, and a 1985 or earlier Distributor to replace the Crank Angle Sensor. I bought a Racing Beat Intake and put together a Holley 600 for it. Without the OMP you will have to Pre-Mix your gas with 1oz of 2 stroke oil for every Gallon of Gas. My biggest hang-up so far is raising the engine and tranny so that the oil pan isn't the Lowest part of my car. A BIG BULGE hanging down in the *** End of a Sand Rail is a No No. Next month I'm doing the Exhaust.

i wanna leave it fuel injected due to lack of funds and the fact that i already have all of the FI components sitting here.

I finished pulling everything that I wanted to delete off of the motor today.... ordered the block off plates... I was debating on keeping the BAC but decided to go on and delete it aswell for the simple fact that the only load that will be on the motor besides normal driving is the alt. so for simplicity.. i'll bump the idle up a little.

anyways... hopefully i'll get some pics up soon as things progress.

thanks for the help guys
