Howdy Gang.

I was driving home from dinner with the wife (seems its always when I get my kills for some reason) in our SLK55. As I get onto the on ramp (its a 270 degree on ramp to the highway) some guy starts riding my ****. I speed up a little to shake him in case he's a cop acting like a clown (very gently) because I HATE tailgaters ! Not working....the guy stays glued to my azz. I figure no way a cop would continue to ride my azz so I decide to see if Fangio can hang with the new AMG as the on ramp straightens out .

So, I nail it (he's ready & waitin') but,.....too bad. The little SLK's 7 speed downshifts at about 30 mph & changes gear like 7 times (OK, it just seems that way with so many gears ). The Vette's front end lifts but to no avail, he begins to dissipate . Me & the wifey put 2 cars on "Mr. Mid Life Crisis" from 30 to about 75 & I left off. He kept into it as I gently merged onto the interstate & rolls up next to me. He doesn't look over? So, I hammer it again at about 75 mph to see if wants another chance. Nope. I guess he wanted to see if the 1/4 mile times on the SLK55 were legit? Yup.

And just what C5 was this? Which model, exactly.. and how much did that cost? How old is it? :P

Just before you get too full of yourself any half-assed mechanic could pull a carburated 383 out of his *** that would blow your SLK off the road in a dragrace mounted in virtually any chassis.

Try torque central's v8 rx-7 forum and see a 383cid v8 RX-7 FC that runs a 9.42 without nitrous, forced induction, on the stock rear end with a 700R4 transmission BTW it cuts a 1.3 second 60' time. VERY impressive to see. Totally hustled a Supra for $100 too!

BTW, the C6 Z06 would annihilate it stock for stock too, well, ****, a Z51 base would beat it unless the driver sucked, and with one less gear!

Actually the C6 Z51 ran against an SLK55 AMG and LOST in the 1/4. That's the fastest C6 you can buy as of now. (Z06 isn't out yet) The convertible C6 like the SLK55 is slower.


You obviously don't appreciate well built cars nor understand why they are such demand. It's not over engineered but well engineered. They also can be modified easy. They offer a blower kit which produces well in excess of 600 hp and almost 600 ft lbs of torque.

Lastly, if your going to be a troll at least know the RX-7's you speak about. Stock twin cars have run in the 10's.

There is more to buying and owning a car then just speed. 3 things in my opinions: form, speed, and status symbol. SLK55 AMG boasts good score across all 3. When you line up at a light on a normal street, 12.7 1/4 will decimate 99% of all cars that you see out there.

Mortgage on wheels? Get a clue and look at his location before you say something stupid like that. Selling that car wouldn't even buy you a patch of land around here. Maybe where you live, but not in Sillicon Valley.

Besides, I didn't see anything on his post to warrant such a vicious reply. Don't be bitter because he could afford a car like that. He probably bought the damn car just because he can.

Hes acting like hes hot **** taking out a C5 with a 6 figure car... when something for less than 5 could smoke it. Is it a status symbol? Well, it sure is! But pretending hes some sort of badass driving a 6-figure status symbol and smoking whats most likely a base model 4auto C5 with a stock LS1 is like being proud of killing a civic.

Besides, have you not seen what it says under my nickname? I do it for the arguement. Its fun.

An SLK55 AMG is just over $60k...guess what? If a C5 convertible had as nice an interior and reliability/engineering as the SLK55, it would cost that much too. Oh, and "around these here parts", prestige counts for something as well. Something an M-B AMG has and a C5, well, doesn't.

And worth every penny. Like they stated earlier it's not just about speed for everyone. Maybe it is for you, in which case you may drive a gutted Pinto, a car with virtually no heritage, no class and no status. My uncle had a Pinto in the 80s with a 302 in it. Smoked nearly everything on the road. But it's not all about that.

The SLK 55 is sick, plain and simple. It's beautifully engineered, just like nearly every other Mercedes-Benz and is incredibly quick, responsive and gorgeous to boot. I would be curious to know if you drove a car that could do half the things the SLK 55 can. Doubtfull. Me, I drive a 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS, nothing too special. But, I don't run my mouth about other cars being ****, especially when the cars being mentioned are iconic compared to mine.

I'm really not much of a Benz fan, so I dont know much about their line. I do know AMG supercharges/tunes a lot of their models, but thats basically it. And personally, what matters more to me is what someone makes and does, not something iconic bought at auction or from a dealership. But its all beside the point.

My bad day started at 7 am when I had 35KV going up my arm because the cylinder for the ignition key in my cars steering column felt like letting the key come out without turning the engine off, so I had to reach under the hood and unplug the wire to the distributer from the coil. A few days ago after I get my other cars radiator and AC working, the transmission has reverse blow out and grind like a rock polisher without moving at all, and my parking space is on a decline so I cant push it out. I also cant find a good 5lug FC around here to start my swap and ditch one of those shitboxes.

Now, that doesnt have anything to do with Yellow R1, but when youre in your sophomore year of college and you just got zapped until the engine quit turning over, and you hate your pieces of ****, it really just burns your ***. Literally. So yeah, to YR1, sorry I mouthed off.

To everyone else with a bone to pick or who think Im a ***, well, tough ****.

Kim, I live off Bascom (close to the Pruneyard area) in a somewhat hidden & sleepy neighborhood. So, we are pretty close my friend! Maybe we can hook up at a local RX-7 meet some time (I have not been to one in years & it would be fun to go some time). BTW, to answer your question, the SLK is firemist red ("fancy smancy" for maroon metalic ).

Someone asked how the SLK would hold up to my R1? The SLK is pretty quick (I do like the torque/low end instant grunt), but I don't think its as quick as our yellow car (that could change after the Kleeman blower install, but I'm upgrading my stock turbos on the R1 too, so, I dunno )
