Volvo Kill, What exactly was it?

Alright guys, I went out for a little cruise on the about 1/2 hour ago. While i was cruising at the speed limit this older(90's) volvo slows down. He sort of looked at me like, "Bah, its Just another kid with a small import car." He then takes off. I notice he has a paper tag in the window. So im thinking, "Alright I'm kind of bored, and this guy just looked at me kind of cocky, but I wont pay it any mind." So we come up to a red light which has been taken over by mack trucks. He is behind one mack truck and an suv, and I am behind a only a mack truck.

The light turns green and i take of normally while this guy comes up next to me and goes WOT for a sec then lets off because there is an suv a little in front of him. "Okay," I think, "This guy thinks he is an hardass now because he has his new(old) volvo and he thinks that i am scared of him because i didnt give chase when he passed me." So now, to give him a little bit of a warning, I give him the BOV salute. The guy obviously doesn't know what that sound means because he switches lanes and begins to cruise in an open lane. My face = .

So i get into that lane and stay a steady 1.5 car back while this guy is cruising faster than the limit. The lane next to us opens up and he goes in that lane. I see plume of smoke come out of his exhaust and i hear his engine going so i know that he is going WOT. So now i say, "Okay hardass, lets see what you got." Remember i am cruising at about 1.5 cars behind him so i would have to play catchup. I go WOT from 70 mph and pull one car....two cars...get in front of him to make him feel more like an idiot...two and a half cars..100 mph...MY TURN OFF! I dab the breaks and merge into my turn off lane. Maybe next time the guy hears a bov salute he will think twice.

Now my question is what volvo was this? It was the 90s boxy type of volvo with smooth edges, with no marking on the back so i could not see any numbers or anything. Anyone know about volvos?

My mods are in my sig, I didn't check my boost gauge but i usually run about 11psi.

Sedan or Wagon?

It was either a 740/960 from the late 80's early 90's, or the newer 850's 93-97. 5 Cyl turbo charged 2.3L. With chip and exhaust they are good for 285@ the flywheel. They are fast, (I have one) but not aerodynamic, or fast enough, to take down a modified turbo rotary.

I have a DSM..lol TSi. AWD to boot, so drivetrain loss starts to kick in when it comes to high speeds. I think i heard the faint whine of a turbo come from the car but I am not going to swear by it. The car was also running rich so that was another reason for me thinking that it was possibly turbo. It was definitely stock. It was also a sedan.

Was there a turbo 960? because that might have been it. What are they 17 sec cars? Because my car is A/T and AWD so at high speeds drivetrain loss really begins to take its toll.

I think they all have turbo variants. My 850 with chip, and exhaust is good for high 13's low 14's. Stock, I am sure they are up around 16 Seconds.

Simply because a 700 series turbo-intercooled could most likely waste your *** especially if they have invested in a different wastegate and a few other simple mods. You're going to have a real hard time dealing with said 700 series with a manual transmission, driven hard they are good for 14's.

Don't knock the Volvo they do hold up better than our FC's by a long shot.

Probably one of these. A 850 Turbo. The simple addition of a chip, and exhaust puts them in the very low 14's. Intake, and a underdrive pullies puts them in high 13's. Although, not a sports car, or a rotary. They are still respectable when it comes to straight line speed. That DSM would never had been able to hang with it if it was chipped.

Actually why don't you try the Volvo on the left here and see what happens. I bet you won't get around me let alone to your exit to get away.

Dude don't knock Volvos and I won't knock your car.

That european luxury sedan could have been modded to the tee or a stock car. Like stated above, you really don't know what they have. As for the forums. Look on DSMTalk its on there. Street racing discussions are not allowed on dsmtuners. And we were pulling up to a red light and i let off the gas, causing to have the BOV blow off. And i called it the bov salute. You have been on this forum for two years and never saw "bov salute" before? I didnt pull the phrase out of thin air. And so what if it was a european luxury sedan. The m3, m5, AMG series are all euro luxury sedans. See any racing videos on the net lately? A lot of them include those cars. Hell, you will even find some volvo ones im sure. Oh yea and while your at it go and get pissy with the guy who raced the integra a few threads down. Hell, he picked on a japanese luxury sports car. What a meanie

No he may have some buried respect but it wont come out until he gets whipped by another eurosedan, anyone can be humbled. I have both a eurosedan and FC turbo and like them both.

One thing that was forgotten in the other posts concerning european cars is those across the pond like to drive fast. Consider the Autobahn in itself with sections of "unlimited" speed limits, would a slow BMW be a welcome sight to a Porsche 928-S? A simple NO. That same BMW in itself can and will pass the 160 KMH mark, even a 318i along with a non turbo FC or Volvo 740 GL with the A/C running if you have it. A diesel Mercedes 300TD will run along the 'bahn at close to 140 KMH all day long until he hits a dynamic speed limit or gets into a city. Its not all unlimited speeds through germany and even in France or England there are high speed highways. Putting it simply europeans drive fast and slow sedans are not at all welcome. Squish the pedal of a 450SEL and see what happens, when in EU tune they are whip quick and could give a FC or even FD turbo a hard time, Germany and a few others do not use cat-converters and have a bare minimum of pollution control equipment on them

He doesnt like european cars thats his problem, they are however very reliable and crashworthy not to mention quite respectible in acceleration, top speeds and handling not to mention braking ability. Now he may only respect his own RX and maybe a few others however he also forgot that he's not the only fish in the water, its arrogance of that nature that tends to not only start fights but leaves them in the loosers circle. If he doesnt like my Volvo thats his problem I dont care one bit, I just wont stop to help him when his RX breaks down on the side of the road.

I'm with ya 988... my first car was a 91 740 wagon NA.... and it might not have been fast... but it wasn't f'ing slow... the ones you see on the road going slow are the DRIVERS. Volvo sells to middle/upper class pansies in the US. (Just the truth!) Even my car was sold to me by a family friend, who took incredible care of it... except that it had freakin 210k on it when I got it... after 30k of me driving it, it feels like the engine has very low compression, doesn't like to idle. I have my 7 now, so I never drive it anymore... but I had a lot of fun in it... if you ever saw a 740 wagon drifting empty street corners in the rain at 2-3am on the way to the 118 freeway, that was me on my way home. ;D

I have no respect for non-rx7 drivers because I frown upon some kid thinking his 16 second automatic DSM is fast just because it has a blow off valve. So he goes and STREET races a car, that obvoiuly isn't made for racing and posts it on an RX7 board.

...and since when do I not have respect for volvos and other euro cars, after all, my grandpa drives a volvo
