There is a light on Route 1 north that has a stop light (two lane divided hwy) and about an 1/8th mile away from the light is a merge into a single lane. Theres only one reason anyone pulls into the second (merge) lane, and that's to pull out in front and get the merge before anyone else. ******** do it all the time. I caught the light in the left lane (the one that doesn't end) and this MK5 brand spankin new black GTI rolls up next to me. I fully know whats going to happen so I take off light and watch what he does.
He takes off to get in front so when I see he's at my door I punch it to the floor. Now, despite all the mods I've done to the car... I roll 215's in the rear for the winter time and when I hammer it, at the top of 1st, 2nd and, 3rd gear, the rear end breaks loose. As I wind out first, shift to second the rear end has lost adhesion with the ground. That was about the only time the GTI started to pull. Once I caught traction in 2nd I pulled two cars quickly, hit third and kept my distance while easing up on the throttle. I shut down shortly after that as I had safely made it through the merge well in front of him.
This came about just a week after a modified Mk4 Jetta (I'm assuming a 1.8t since I never saw the rear of his car) decided to pull up next to me on 695 and try and get my attention by pulling even then brake boosting a rolling launch. I also quickly put him in his place after giving him the jump I made a move from 5th to third from the speed limit (55) and pulled right past him and kept pulling up to 130 where I shut down just because he was so far behind. I could have easily kept going.
Mods: Fresh ported S5 Motor, Tuned AP Engineering PFC, Stock series 5 turbo, Greddy fmic, walbro, 12lbs of boost.
Cliff notes: 2 VW kills in 5 days. These VW kids are way too cocky. I imagine it's VWs "Un-pimp zee auto" commercials.

Haha mike, you should come to H20 internation at OC with us this year, it is the most fun ive probably ever had spanking all the dubs. We only ran into 2 cars last year that gave brian a run for his money, so we should be ok this year
and btw, i love doing that to people at the light haha

I love those stupid commercials
Nice stomp on the vee-dub man
I can't stand that kind of attitude either (seems like anyone who drives a "sport compact car" with/without ***** has the same mentality).

Well, you ARE antitled to your own opinion, but why? Because They are german and happen to be slightly slower than wht you're used to? A car's greatness isn't only measured in its 1/4 time, ya know? Like the FD versus the RSX thing in the other thread... the DC5 is still the better overall car. Yes, i dared to say that, **** all who bitch at me for it, you immature little kids.

The VW crowd is actually a really great group of people for the most part (I am a former member). I had a 1.8t Jetta and with a chip and exhaust they will run 13.8 to 14.2, but most people don't take it much farther than that. If you want to run faster than that it is time for a big money. They are nice but against a ported trubo FC, not a chance.
I don't like the newer VWs but I do like the Scirocco MK1 Rabbit etc. They are always getting heavier it seems, but just about everyone BUT Mazda is not worried about how much a car weighs anymore.
LOL@ Asterix, who has ever considered an RSX to be near supercar like? Power compared to a 2 rotor is comparable, almost, but a 3 rotor track car would rape the **** out of any RSX. By this, I do not mean 1.4 mile times.
Anyways, I don't think hardly any of the real VW people like the newer GTIs anyway. Not saying everyone hates them, just alot dislike them, however this model is going to have a short production run and will be replaced soon anyway.

It's a nice looking car. I'm sure if I was looking to cart my super hawt girlfriend around in it, it'd make a nice ***** wagon.
I don't think I've ever met a woman who even wanted to attempt driving my car or riding in the passenger seat of my Rx-7 more then once.
Common complaints:
"I always smell like exhaust whenever I ride in your car"
"Your car gives me a headache"
"Is your car broken? It makes weird noises when you shift."
"I can drive stick, theres something wrong with your clutch"
"This car isn't fast" (This was a good one, she kept shifting at 2500rpm...)
"You drive too recklessly" (female police officer
)

VW is a strong car. Strong block, easy to add forced induction to, handles very well.
On the other end, I think it looks like a chics car to me. Not sexy looking. On the same note, I think the Mini Cooper S is better looking, handles better from what I know, but I do not know if it could handle upgrades as easily.

he did say overall, and since he did you have to include things like interior.. which the rsx wins easily even though the seating position in fd's is pretty damn cool... fuel economy, which is an important consideration for a street car.. practicality, i dont think there any areguement there... and most importantly- reliability... i dont even need to say anythign about that one
the fd is easily the better racing platform, the rsx is a much more liveable car with a vastly superior drivetrain
just comes down to what you want out of the car, but an fd makes a shitty daily driver.. the rsx makes an amazing one

That really boils down to the meaning of overall. In the eyes of the general US population, sure I could see that (keep in mind this is the same US population that has problems finding nations other then the US on a map). In the eyes of real sports car enthusiasts/owners/racers; Um, No.
If I had to drive an FF platform rated for 200hp everyday to work and back well... I'd just end it right now. Give me a RWD, 300hp<, under 3000lbs platform and I'll be at work on time everyday, smiling. It's like therapy.

So that narrows it down to about 5% of the population.
I work at VW and they pretty nice cars overall, but when it comes down to it they are heavy, and for that matter top heavy, the GTIs are still boxes on wheels. They have great handling, brakes, and are safe-but they cant handle the weight distribution and aero of the RX7, so an RX will own them in the corners and because they are such tanks will get owned by RX7s light to light as well
Yep, VWs are heavy, so congrats on beating a 3000 lb, 200+hp car with a lighter, more powerful car.
I used to own VWs from my first Scirocco to a Mk IV GTI. Aside from the electrical issues, they were very good cars. The older Rocco's and GTIs handled well and were sometimes even faster than some of their American muscle contemporaries.
The Mk IV I owned was easy to tune. With a simple chip/I/E set-up, I increased performance from 180 hp stock to 225 hp / 250 tq. That's pretty good for around $1000 spent.
