twin turbo C5 w/NOS vs. Shelby Cobra

A local club had a Sunday drive with a group of really wonderful exotic cars including everything from a 1971 Pantera with 10,000 original miles, to Carrara GT to a GT700 996tt to some pretty wild Corvettes. I only made the first few minutes of the drive as I had to go to a Birthday party for my friend's baby's first birthday, but I did have a little fun.

Here's a video of a couple minutes of footage. Shortly into the video is the C5 Corvette with built motor, twin turbos (T61?) 17 psi and a wet system nitrous oxide system being driven by a set of drag radials. I don't know if he was spraying. The Superformance Shelby Cobra is NA all motor bored and stroked Dart 351 to make a 427 ci with AFR cnc ported 205 heads, 1000 cfm carb and the other regular strong stuff, driven by drag radials.

Sorry you don't like the video. I sort of thought 39 seconds into the video may be of interest. I don't have a radar detector.

Your perception must be confused because the cars are closely matched. Listen to the engine and gears when the Shelby Cobra leaves second at about 4 seconds into the run. The 2 to 3 shift was then missed. It's doing just under 80 mph at that point. A 400 HP C5 isn't going to hang like that, but requires a few seconds longer to achieve the same speed.

The C5 in the video isn't a bolt on set up. It's a full engine tear down and rebuild with forged everything and other goodies. He's running 17 psi on the turbos with methanol injection and a 8 fogger nitrous oxide wet set up.

It was about 80F around 10:15 AM, but air intake over the road around 85F to 90F. Actual elevation was around 1400 ft, about 28.8 on the barometer and about 30F dew point temp..... dry, low pressure.... not bad.

I'm actually suprised he could even put that power down. This month's R&T has a picture of an LPE C6 TT smoking the tires in third gear at 110 MPH.
