You may have been going faster than you thought.

If this page is correct use .71 for 5th
http://v8rx7.com/gearing.htm

I don't know the height of your tires, but here's a calculator. Your rearend ratio should be 4.10.
http://www.tciauto.com/tech_info/calculators.htm#2

I'm not sure what tires you have on the rear, but you could look up your tire on line or just measure. I'm not sure if the tire grows in height around 200 mph, but I'd imagine you could add a fraction of an inch.

24.7 inches tall 202 mph
25 inches tall 204 mph
26 inches tall 213 mph

Careful you're just about at the blow off the road speed. Though the FD has incredible coefficient of drag and minimal frontal surface area it's down force may be a bit challenged..

Sorry to be like a dad, but we care.

It was an FC that lifted off at 215mph. The speed record for an fd is 23X mph or something like that. Nifty **** thats for sure.

Im not trying to act like a parent towards you cause you're an adult and you make your own decisions but its not only so much about your car "feeling" stable, you can have a tire blowout, lose control due a small imperfection in the road, or other things that can lead to a fatal crash.

I remember one time my friend was driving his 01 chevy extreme and those things are slow, he was trying to top it and it would only go 95mph. I guess that was the factory limit and he just tried to hit 100 and the truck shut off completely.

And you know when a car is off and you turn the wheel a bit, the steering wheel locks? Well that happened to him at freaking 95mph. The damn steering wheel locked on him and i dont know how he stopped safely. I guess it was an empty highway cause if there were some cars around, he would def crash into them.

Just be careful man.

steering wheel will not lock if the key is still in the on position....in which case if it just "turned off" It would still be in the on position.

....Interesting.

Yeah it was, but if you watch the video, its on the salt flats, and the car lost traction due to the poor surface, then started to spin. Once it spun sideways and almost backwards the rear end has high lift in the wrong direction and flipped it onto the roof. So I dont think the FD is unstable at high speed, but many things could kill you going that damn fast!

lost traction was due to too much downforce on the nose...if it was from poor surface, then what about all the other cars that run on the flats? if you watch the vid in slow mo, you can see the nose dig.

WERD! If you watch the fender on the right front side youll see it start to go down over the top of the tire.

i drove my fd to 160 and the car felt very stable. im sure some R compound tires, a rear diffuser, a wing, and some front canards and you should be ok. i'm not saying do it but it would decrease the risk. i'm assumeing he had the GTC front when he did this which should by mazda design added down force to the front.

I didn't realize how much more gear the FD has. We had my buddy's CYM TII to a calculated 173. 9000rpm in 5th gear, speedo already wrapped around....lots o fun!
He had a ported motor, 3"dp and exhaust, hks bov, stock tmic, fpr, external wastegate, and a full suspension

hmmmmm....wouldn't it take about 300 rwhp in a TII to make that speed?
