However a with similar mods the FD really has no advantage weights are similar, once you start modding the FCs 182 HP really no longer matters. Nor does the FDs 255 HP. Once you consider RB exhaust alone puts you at like 240. Dollar for Dollar the the FC will for sure win. For example if 2 people are given $20k and told to see who can build the quickest/fastest car the FC is gonna win. You can buy a decent FC for like $3k and sink $17k into mods, The FD guys gotta put up around $12k just for the car that will leave them with about $8k for mods. If course we all know you can find a FD for $9500 and stuff, you can also find a TII for $1500. I am talking cars you dont mind being seen in though or are not a total basket case. Anyway I will give the FD the looks, but I really see no edge performance wise. It just depends on how the car was built and whos behind the wheel.
I would agree that FD peeps sometime "look down its nose at the FC crowd" as you put it. I'm guessing this is because there are some pretty marked differences in the cars between the FC and the FD. I imagine the same would apply for other cars such as the MKIII and MKIIII supras.

On the other hand, if you look at the 240SX/Silvia crowd, you tend not to see this "look down its nose" effect because once an SR20DET is swapped in, the cars' looks/performance is pretty similar IMO between generations.

Dollar for dollar" isn't a valid comparison.

Example. You can buy a POS civic/neon/whatever for $1k, sink $19k into it and have a car fast enough to blast off into orbit. Does this make the civic/neon/whatever better cars than more expensive cars such as FC, FD, G35, C5, bla bla, etc?

As mentioned in a similar thread (dont remember which), the FD is an evolution of the FC. It is somewhat silly to make comparisons based on costs subsequent to external factors such as depreciation. An example of this would be a 1990 civic compared to a 2000 civic. Of course the 2000 civic is more expensive, this doesn't mean that the 1990 civic is "better". Obviously, the base performance on the 2000 civic is better than the 1990, and the 1990 civic can be modded with the "extra" money to surpass the performance of the 2000 civic. This same idea can be applied to the FB, FC, and FD concept.

BTW, I'm not trying to flame your post, just providing a counter-argument to your theory

usmcjsy: THIS statement,

Ya the FD crowd somtimes does somtimes look down its nose at the FC crowd. Even though I do know some cool FD owners. My conclusion is a FC can beat a FD. I will race a FD with my FC it just boils down to mods. Most FC guys are cheap (including me ). Usually they dont have the kinda $$ the FD owners have. perplexes me. Are you saying the Racing Beat exhaust on a TII or on a NA 13B gives you 240 hp? Because I have never seen ANYTHING like that advertised in ANY of their catalogs, for EITHER car!

Look, I am not a "FD snob", I still really like the FC and the FB for that matter, they are all cool kick-*** cars. But let's not get TOO carried away, okay? I am sure that there are some really fast and quick FCs out there, and kudos to the guys that built them for sure. It is a great platform to work with. And there isn't any reason for ANYONE to stick their nose up at a nicely done FC (or any other car for that matter) that has TRUE performance.

I think everyone is agreeing that this thread is about tII's not n/a's and we also agree that if we are going to compare or even try to race an fd we would have to do this fair by a turbo charged car vs. another turbo charged car. In this respect he is correct about the tII exhaust because freeing it up will increase boost thus making the large increase in hp. usmcjsy you are correct it all boils down to mods I just want to see a couple vids or stories of tII guys that had more mods then the fd so they spanked em'

Thanks HondaHater, well for me it does boil down to $$ and the best bang for the buck RX for me is the TII. If money were no issue we would all be driving Vipers and GT40s and so on. Also I am obviously talking about a TII with the RB exhaust you can go check it out to here: http://www.mazdatrix.com/r-extii.htm. So a S4 with 182 HP with this exhaust would have 241 HP and S5 would have roughly 260HP. Surprisingly $ does matter for a lot of us. Plus the ease to work on stuff. A RX7 is RWD which is a lot better than FWD for drag racing, drifting and just making a car fun to drive. As far as Drag Racing goes I would have to say the quickest RX7 I know of is a FD. As far as the fastest RX7 I know of is a FC http://www.racingbeat.com/FRmazda2.htm it went 238mph. Anyway I like both RXs I just really have a tough time beleiving that the FD is really any better than the FC. If i had the $$ you bet I would have a FD .

Yeah I would be driving an fd myself If money wasn't an object, I would have my dream car....oh yeah thats an fd, hehe. Anyways I think the fd has a couple of advantages like larger ports, wieght is less than an fc, what I would consider more arrow dinamic chassis, and of course the suspension is better as well. All around it is a better car, I will not lie but I think that there are plenty of tII's that would whoop them VIDS VIDS VIDS~!!!!!!!

the whole issue about FD owners and FC owners, is over blown.
All the FD owners I have met are cool, and FC, FB owners are cool.

The FC/FB owners that feel that FD owners are snobs. are just suffering from
inferiority complex. like sibling rivalry.

Damn I stand corrected! They squeezed out a extra 4 mph. Well my hats off to ya. Looks like there is nothing that can beat these FDs I have to admit it. These cars are NOT even close in competition 4 more miles an hr. Once agian I was just stating that there is not much differance in performance in the 2 and you proved my point. The FD got 4 more MPH. Plus howm many years later was that accomplished? See there is virtually no differance. Anyway the RB FD did beat the RB FC. I think though that if they wanted to they could get 4 more MPH outta the FC. These cars are comparable on the street as well as at the strip and on the top end. Thats all I was ever stating. Rotary Performance with there "street FD" has run a 9.1 and thats there business selling high performance parts. There used to be a member on here by the name of Soul Assasin who was also well into the 9s with a FC and he was a aircraft mechanic I believe. So if you put the time and money into either one the end results will be the same. I really have seen no case that shows me the FD is a so far superior. For a few tenths of asecond maybe on a street car I will keep my FC and pocket the extra $10k I saved with initial cost of the car and put it toward parts or stocking the gun cabinet . I admit though the FD was faster than the FC from RB. Have a good weekend everyone and do not forget what this holiday is all about.

^I never said that modified t2s and fds arent a comparison. All I showed, was that since you believed that the t2 held the fastest mph, the fd was a little faster there. I didnt even say anything lol. Yes and have a great Memorial Day everyone.

An FC can most definately beat an FD, but the performance per dollar argument holds true for almost any vehicle, from the FWD civic crowd, up into FD vs Vette territory. Once you start modding vehicles, it becomes less a matter of what you're driving (within reason), and more so on who has the deeper pockets or mechanical know-how.

If you're going to say "with similar mods", then whatever mod one car recieves will have to be placed on the other in order to match and compare power gains for two otherwise stock cars. Entry level price is largely debatable, but while favor goes to the FC (for arguments sake), some things that aren't considered in most peoples mods list (support mods that don't necessarily add power but stability or support) need to be considered. Mazda went through extensive detail to imrpove upon an already great vehicle. You raise the point of weight, and while overall weight may not be hugely different, it will also depend on where that weight exist. For example, in order to meet safety regulations you will most often add weight, but decreased weight in the short block or drivetrain holds its obvious advantages. The FD is set from the factory to handle higher output given proper attention to detail than the FC, especially when you consider details like [stock] wheel/tire sizes, turbo system (when working well ) chassis rigidity, drivetrain, aerodynamics, etc. You say there is no real edge performance wise, but in fact there is- just remember that none of the 7s were built for straight line drag racing where a combination of money/power/displacement usually reign supreme. Its no blow to the FC or its fans, but rather praise to Mazda with their ability to outdo themselves.

afk limitz I was not saying anything, I appreciate you bringing that to light so I now know that there is a faster 3rd gen. I did not know. I know its hard to tell ones tone on the net. I was not trying to imply that you were saying anything bad about the FC.
HondaHater somday we will have our FDs to . Maybe when (if) they make a new RX it will help bring prices down on the FD. Then I can have 1 of each Anyway I like any rotary vehicle. I just favor the FC at the moment cuz thats my baby. If I had a FD I would argue on behalf of that LOL. Well later guys I am gonna stay off this thread and let it die. Is all this seems to do is pit rotary owner vs rotary owner. We all know there is plenty of piston powered vehicles we can direct our energy at.
