T2 on stock turbo kills STi
So I'm on my way to work yesterday on the interstate and this blue, completely stock looking and sounding STi merges onto the highway. I'm feeling bored and kinda reckless so I blow off at him. There's a little bit of traffic, but eventually he's behind me. I hit it in 4th at about 75mph, he follows for a few seconds and then lets off. I slow down and then we are in some traffic for a few minutes.
Finally traffic clears up and he's actually ahead of me. I speed up to get next to him and as I was about to hit it he just goes. So he jumps me about two carlengths, I floor it and reel him in quickly, putting about two carlengths on him from a 70-110 pull. I give him the thumbs up and exit.
Mods are rebuilt Bruce Turrentine motor with aggressive street port, front mount, Rtek 1.7 + SAFC, no emissions, 720 secondarys, etc. Car has no boost controller but in 4th gear it will still hit 12psi.

Nice kill there are a lot of sti of by my house and me and my buddy (who has like 4 rx7 one being a 3rd gen) kills them all the time and they are always mad when they see his car lol i love it
I dont understand this. Not calling BS dont think that. Because i have beat up on an sti too...a newer one actually. But my friend jsut got an sti and he is good driver..and known how to drive his car...while driving it hard. And the other sti i walked by about 3...but my friends he will run right next to me from like 35-45 up until im almost at the top of 4th gear...and then i start running. All of these runs have been after i have caked bearing in my turbo...but ive understood it doesnt make a difference. They are hitting hte housing but it still pulls the same. Anyways..nice kill. And my mods car...intake, exhaust, greddy fmic, microtech, 1600s and other supporting stuff (e-fan ect.)
^^you should be ripping your friends STI with those mods. I can understand him staying with you down low because of AWD but they experience some bad drivetrain powerloss once they hit 3rd and especially 4th. Sounds like ur turbo just isnt spooling up right.
NICE KILL! I'm jealous cuz i loss to an 05 sti before in my 90 t2 with used jdm engine, but when i get my new rx-7 with rebuilt engine and turbo probably tommorow, I will be looking foward to a rematch. The car I' m gonna get made 214whp to the wheels at 8psi with a dirty AFM. I will be cranking it up to 12psi. my new car will have my mods in the signature, but with fmic too. so u guys think i should smoke the a stock sti at 18psi or whatever the safe boost is at?

yea i have noticed that on my car/turbo it runs out of breath around 5700-6000 RPMs. it doesnt go lean, there is is just a dip in power. im running a pretty agressive streetport which is probably why.
stock STi = ~237 whp according to some magazine i read, and ~3300lbs
my car = 250 whp with of course the stock turbo falling off quickly, and 2780 with a full tank of gas
so on the highway it's no surprise i pulled him. Now I need a BNR stage 4.

Dude I don't know, my motor comes to life after 6k but then again I ported the **** out of the turbo manifold (stock) and the turbo's wastegate (not as wicked as the manifold and motor) I got the best of a newer sti (not the newest) and my car laves the 70 to 130 dash. But I need down force ; any one else doing good too or is it just my car? Even the modded high revvers like s2ks I can take. Maybe its just me.

A stock Turbo II turbo runs out of air, and thats it. The CFM it produces is lame when compared to a rotary over 5.5k rpms. If you have a ported rotary, you can just shut the wastegate completely, and it will spike to about 23-24lbs @3k rpms, giving you over 250rwtq at 4.5k rpms, but the boost will die down to about 4-5psi at 7.5k rpms. 250rwhp is about all the Turbo II has in it Semi- RELIABLY. If you ask for more the rear turbine will explode from excessive rpms on the turbo itself. So in short, the stock TII turbo feels like a old school V8 when you crank up the boost, no top end at all. But it can still lay down some smack, dont get me wrong. I am just talking from experience about its set-backs.
you should be able to beat him no problem. The only car ive ever lost to is an evo from a kid that i know.
His mods were: upgraded turbo (who knows what kind), 26 psi, FMIC, ignition, Fuel, "untuned ECU", Turboback Exh. (all he told me)
My Mods: Nitto drags, Intake, Turboback, stock boost (no creep), 150 lbs weight reduc, Short shifter, base mapped PFC
and i only lost by about a car from a roll 30 to 100 ish. Semi crowded road but even still. He was way more modded than I was and I barely lost imo compared to what I had done to what he had done.

he was lying
if a 26 psi evo on a big well supported turbo doesnt absolutely rape the **** out of a barely modded tII the evo owner should kill himself pronto
you must be racing a bunch of weak *** cars to have never lost a race with your damn near stock fc

what kind of dyno was it on? a problem the AWD community has faced is that there are a couple different dynos that give VERY different results. this makes accurate comparison somewhat difficult. if it really does have 277 awhp (from a dyno that would give the "normal" ~237), then i'm gonna **** in his cereal for getting an extra 40 awhp...
