so today im heading to work on the freeway and a red SRT 4 starts tailgating me. Theres a 2 lane left turn coming up so i downshift to speed up and enter the turn, slowly pulling away from the SRT4. Towards the end of the turn there are 2 cars in each lane so i straighten out as much as possible and brake hard. Next thing i hear tons of tire screeching but i kno its not me, look in the mirror and i see the SRT doing 360s. haha, he did 1 and a half 360s from what i could tell. Just thought it was interesting.
Forgive the cocky statement, but this is the 4th time in my life ive seen someone try to hang with me in the turns and lose control.

oh, my FD is stock except for 3" exhaust.
lol, srt-4s..

I'm not really understanding the reason behind your post. Nobody said the SRT-4's were slow.
i know nobody said the srt-4's where slow, i was just giving my expresion on the srt-4 thats all, because it seems that because these cars are a neon almost everybody say thats there crap. and that expresion about mod the hell out of a car to get big power it may be true but not everytime, it doesn't everytime relies in keep putting mods and mods to you car if you don't know what you're doing, hell i seem so many owners that put a lot of **** to their cars and when they get to the dyno the only increase they see is like 50hp, its not only what you put in the car, its to know what you put in your car and how its gonna react to the mod you add, for example is like i want to make a civic turbo and instead of putting a turbo that i know the civic is gonna spool fine i put a big turbo like a T70 or T72, hell instead of making it faster all i did was waste money cause the civic is gonna spool that turbo in like 5th year at 6000 rpms so is not only mod the hell out of the car, its to know what the car can handle and how it will react. i have a friend who turboed his toyota tercel and because he listen to every people instead of looking was best for the car right now his car is running like crap because he put mods to the car without knowing what the hell they were. people that really know what there doing can kill many cars on the road that have a lot of money put in their cars with a lot less money put in their cars. why? because they know what they're doing and they don't put a ton of cash to their cars before knowing hows the car gonna react to the new mods.

my bad for the long story but thats what i think.

You are going off on a tangent here. There are somethings are just implied and should go unsaid. Especially when a blanket statement such as $$=power is made. When this statement is made it is implied that the person is going to do it correctly.

And SRT-4's are crap IMO. These crap cars can be fast, but they are crap none-the-less.

Plus 1g dsm's were ugly as hell so i sold it. I could have gone with a 2g gst/gsx but again, 7 bolt engines and i didnt want to do a 6 bolt swap, i honestly dont like the idea of spending alot of money anyway on an older car, especially an eclipse/talon. So i talked away from the dsm world.

The SRT4 is something you shouldnt play with. With the right mods (and its not many), can be REAL beasts. Yeah so what its a neon, but its an aggressive neon that will destory many cars on the road with the proper mods.

And plus right now, i can get one for DIRT cheap, dealer costs since my dad manages one. The car is still relatively new so it still has the warranty and i could do dealer warrantied mods on it and make it faster. I think its a win win situation.
dang...since your dad manages 1, he can get the car with only 30% of the retail value.

Well that was their intention. TO be fast and affordable at the same time.

If they put more effort in more luxury features, more non shitty interior parts, it wont cost 20k brand new.

People get it cause its a cheap way to go fast.

And its not horrible looking IMO.

Exactly. Don't expect anyone to think that those cars are nice especially when that was not the intetion of the design in the first place.

Cheap NEW way to go fast. Foxbodies and nearly any old turbo car are much cheaper, and can be made even faster. FC TII or FB with a TII swap anyone?

Even now that argument cannot be made since they aren't new anymore! Now they're a comparitively expensive way to not have as much potential, even in a straight line.

I dont expect that from anyone. Its a damn neon. But jesus its a normal looking car. People want the curves and lines of the FD thrown in the 4 door and be fast for 20k. It wont happen. But they think this car is uglier than the gremlin or some ****.

Its still a neon, basically a neon with a kit and an agressive front. Of couse looks wont change, the base was from a neon.

And yes its a NEW cheap way to be fast. 03-05 is stil considered new because they is not any other car in 06-07 with the same price tag that will perform like that car, stock and modded.

And dont say the cobalt.

(Thread Pirate )

A Stage 1 is rated at 238 but puts down a dyno proven 250+.... I've seen it with my own eyes!! But yes, they do tend to be cocky computer nerds up here who think their cars beat everyone, until they race mine! HAHA I love seeing their faces.... The best part is they know EVERYTHING about rotaries... Did you know my car has a governor at 145??? That's odd cuz I've had it up to 160...... Huh.... The Stage 2 SRT4 has a governor at 167, so the guy says...

Definitely not a bad car for the money and actually fairly comfy to drive. Just don't straight pipe the car cuz then it sounds horrible, unlike the FD =)

The new Caliber SRT-4 is going to be a piece of **** (or a bigger one than the Neon SRT-4, as referenced from other replies). I was working at a Dodge dealership up until after the release of the Caliber and the one thing I noticed about it was that it felt so unbelievably cheap inside. Not to mention how completely butt-ugly the exterior is.

The one thing that I found about the Neon SRT-4 that ruined the package (to me) is the fact that they set up the suspension to be light in the rear. So light, that besides the FWD setup, it could probably be drifted. Other than that one glaring mistake, I thought the rest of the package was solid. I have driven a few of them, stock and modded, and they definatly love to run. The warranty is only good for the Stage 1 package; stage two and three void the warranty completely. Also, be nice to the transmission, because you may find yourself with problems after 30k miles.

It is a shame that so many of the owners are arrogant and unintelligent, pretty much the same reason that I quit hanging out with the Honda crowd and started looking at RX7s.

I can tell you that the most fun I had at Dodge, was getting to drive the SRT-8s on occasion. I even had an owner chat me up for awhile about his 300C SRT-8 and then let me drive it when I exclaimed how much I enjoyed those things. I took him down my favorite road near the dealership to show him how the car will behave with the traction and stability control on and off (and how to disable the system entirely ). The SRT-10s were a little harder to get into as far as taking them for a drive, but I did get to drive a few vipers on the street and one SRT-10 truck.

I've rambled long enough, but the reason for the Neon SRT-4 spinning behind you was probably the stock suspension. Poor little boy must have tried so hard to keep, just to screw it all up by stabbing the brake peddle while cornering hard.

Nice semi-kill though!

If it weren't for teh Neon chasis...SRT4's are the best bang for teh buck. Very quick and not alot of money.

My local friend, pretty much untouchable in full street trim, no weight savings, etc.

No idea to be honest with you...I just know it's fast as hell for a street SRT-4.
