This thread is stupid but here I go anyway.
Steet cars.
AWD>RWD, at launch
RWD>AWD, after launch when full traction is available due to less drivetrain losses.
ex. at the crank, 300hp AWD 1/4mi @100mph vs. RWD~ 105-108mph, with probably the AWD winning(lower trap time) due to a much quicker 60ft time.
Race cars.
The only AWD you see is Rally cars, needs traction, why have all that drivetrain loss around a race track when your engine is basically limited??
Drag cars.
Thats already been stated with weight tranfer.
So bacically AWD is good for dirt/launching, RWD is good for everything else.

ok, in Japan people are able to make a hatch, or Ae86 get low 8's much easier than Skylines, or wrx's. and there are many skylines in Japan.

VERY TRUE. STI's lose on average 70 HP to the wheels, means they have 230 at wheels which is a big loss. And that loss increases the more Hp u go up. FWD lose the least, and RWD is in between.

my cousin has a STOCK 05 RSX type S....... not a crazy car at all. We raced a EVO, (with us having more passengers) on the HWy from prob 60 roll. The evo BARELY pulled on us. just proving how after launch AWD cars reach the weak point. EVo would of demolshed us with a launch and more torque pulling out.

heres an idea of the diffrence of an awd from a dig and then from a roll.
All that drivetranloss is worth it when you completley demolish everything and anything from a stop wich is what drag racing really is... wtf is "roll racing?" And not loosing traction and great handling is a plus. But id rather be in a certain rwd 90s toyota over any awd car.
and the guy with the sti your right about not changing from 04-05 but as for the wrx 05 to 06 they are alot better.
as for the fd what is the "official" 0-60 time for an r1 or a base? I have an arguement with a fellow fd owner about it every day. he says 4.9 i say low 5s. Someone correct us

? you completley took that the wrong way...
all specs for cars are by professionals, im just asking a question what do i know?
he said the same thing you did, from mazda officials, but i wouldnt take manufacures results for anything, i was looking for some c&d or motortrend type things. I mean **** Subaru and Mitsubishi both claimed 4.5 0-60s for the 06 models, I wasnt convinced till mt did the head to head.

Even though Henessey would like to believe that all threads must revolve around the 3000GT, I will bring this particular thread back on topic.
Here is a great example of why Rx7's in general pwn the STI:

Id take a 7 over an sti, even though the 7 outperforms it... for every fd you see there are 20 or so stis. Its nice to have something most people dont. Im into the overall aspect
another question, the spirit R, the same guy says its high 11s out of the box, true or false?

Also, a 4.9s 0-60 in a ~2,800lb, 255hp car is reasonable. Debating a published number by 2-3 tenths of a second based on your subjective on-the-spot calculation is fairly unreasonable. Don't rely on C&D numbers too much either. They are a good benchmark, but they get brand new cars to test. Generally brand new cars are slightly slower than their potential because the engine isn't fully broken in yet, so C&D numbers may understate a car's potential performance.
Lastly, racing from a roll does serve a purpose, albeit a slightly lame one. It can be used to better a guage which car has better power and gearing disreguarding driver skill, and any traction issues the cars have at launch. I personally consider it "seeing what the car can do", but I don't really consider it racing.
And just to put it out there, I actually like AWD cars. They are great for rallying, and can sometimes tear an equally powered RWD car a new one on the street. I like fast cars in general. I just have no patience for ignorant fanboyism.
What is a spirit R, and more importantly, if it does run 11s out of the box, where can I get one?

spirit r is the last run they did with the fd3s rx7, they only made 1500, dont know how fast they are, they say they have 280hp, but really thats 300-320, i will say they would do mid 12s .

true, that dose make sense. But its got to stay constant driver you know?
