Thumbs up satisfied my TII's lust for the kill (GSR swap hatch)

So, I've been on a mission these last couple of weeks to kill some n00bs. Purely in the automotive sense, of course. It's "ironic" though, that every time I find a potential victim (or victor) they manage to find the nearest side road and turn off...

Well, it's kind of annoying to say the least. Corvette's, Modified Integra's, Prelude's, WRX's, SRT-4's, an Evo8 etc.

Anyways, after weeks of fruitless searching, and a new DP/MP combo, I finally found someone willing to play.

I had been roaming Hw 99 with a full tank of gas, keeping my eyes open for a victim, getting several bites, but never taking down the prey-- when I eye an enemy approaching in the opposite direction...

Just as I was about to give up my quest for fresh blood, he appeared as I was waiting at a stop light. It was clean. An EK Civic hatch, slammed on GSR wheels, gutted interior with bars, racing seats etc. He hooks the corner in front of me as I'm waiting for my light to turn green. It does seconds after. I wait 'til I'm out of the intersection before flipping a U-turn. I do, but get caught up in the latest batch of traffic. I suffer for a couple minutes behind some law abiding citizens as I see his glowing orange Civic beginning to disappear on the horizion. Finally I'm able to squeeze by and give it a little gas. I carefully cruise the 4 lane road at 55mph, propped up in my seat as I crane my necks looking out for the fuzz.

As I crest a long slow hill and begin my descent towards the looming freeway, I see my new friend patiently waiting at a red light, unaware of the TII that's been stalking him for the last 10 minutes. He just so happened to be the last one in the train of waiting cars, and convieniently, there was an open spot right next-door.

As I pull up, I do a nice heel-toe downshift, allowing him to hear my exhaust on it's 'down' note as I come to a stop. His buddy looks over and smirks/giggles as he leans over to his left and mentions something to his friend. I make my presence known by looking over and nodding at nothing in particular. After a couple seconds I hang my arm out the window and say to the passenger;

"what've you guy's got done to your Civic"?

The passenger looks at me and then leans over in the racing seats and get's his homie's attention. The driver cranes forward against his harnesses and cockily says

"what's up"?!?

I say, "what've you done to your Civic"?

He says "GSR".

I say, "Right on, is it fast"?

His buddy starts laughing as the driver looks over with a smirk on his face and arrogantly replies, "Yeah, I smoked an STI on the freeway the other day"...

I nod my head in agreement as his friend chimes in, "yeah, we also beat a 300zx..."

I don't respond so he adds;

"twin-turbo"...

I say, "...cool, cool... I guess we'll find out which is faster, right"?

Motioning to the TII.

They either didn't hear me, or they just ignored me as the light turned green and we started to move. We were on a bridge going over I-5 when the lane cleared in front of the Civic for about 50 feet. I hear a roar as his passenger is slammed back into the Sparco as they fly past my door, while at the same time merging over into the turn lane to get on to the freeway heading North.

My direction.

I give a quick check into my blind-spot as I blip the throttle and get over 2 lanes, directly behind the Hatch.

I thought about how both the kills that he mentioned were on the freeway.

I waited in a bit of adrenaline induced anxiety for the turn-lane light to turn green. When it did, we slowly made our way to the freeway entrance as the car in front of him got into the other lane. We both stayed in what now had become the carpool lane. It had a long sweeping curve before launching into a long straight-away that merged with the freeway. He began getting on the gas as we got near the half-way part of the turn (I would've loved to have ridden his @ss as he tried to outrun me in the turn, but sadly my rear pass. strut is blown).

Anyways he starting hitting it, as I gave half throttle in my attempt to keep up. By the time I was able to go WOT, he was probably a good 30-35 feet in front of me. As he shifted into 3rd the Civic got a little bit sideways and shot the makings of a small flame. I realized as I shifted hard into 3rd, that I was actually pulling... Little by little I saw my nose getting closer and closer to the back-end of his little orange, wanna be race-car, rice-car.

I saw him look in the rear-view mirror as he mentally spurred his car on to greater speeds. By fourth gear I was practically on top of him before I decided that he had had enough abuse until we could get next to each other good and proper. I let off as we both merged onto the freeway. I got over several lanes as he took my que and also merged over. I said what the heck and hopped into the empty carpool lane as he slipped into the closest lane on my right.

I held the RPM's at 6k in third gear, cruising at 70mph. I watched from the corner of my eye until I saw him slowly disappear into my blind-spot. I tensed slightly, knowing that the inevitable was about to happen.

He quickly down-shifted... But I was ready as I mashed the throttle to the floor. He pulled initially about half a car length. But as he shifted into fourth, I held it in 3rd while my redline buzzer sang a pretty tune.

We were now even.

I shifted hard into fourth and began walking slowly away--more so as the RPM's climbed. By the time I let off high in the upper RPM's of 4th gear, I was probably a good 3-4 car lengths ahead and feeling pretty good as I de-ccelerated.

He slowed down until he was WAY back there. He probably didn't want to have anything to do with my little "dream crusher"... lol.

My belly full after gorging on the fresh kill, I headed home to take a nap.

haha, thanks guys. I was a little cracked out when I wrote it (not literally)... lol.

The hatch was actually an EG? (the popular early/mid 90's one's.)

Yeah, that was an N/A civic...what are the chances a turbo civic would beat you? I'm not a fan, i'm just saying theres always that one out there.

Good kill! It feels good to put the cocky slow *** ricers in their place! Keep that FC running good!

Good kill you noobah! I see you also learned how to write a good kill story from me! Muah ha ha!.....

I have seen that Civic before. It is a really bright orange like offered on the Mazdaspeed protege/miata.

Sounds like the rebuild has really broken in. How you stacking up to Garret now?

Yup your right. I happened to run into a turbo bubble. He had a Rev' Hard turbo kit & spanked by a car 1/2 two times. It was white with a huge Rev' Hard decal on the sides. That night I learned to respect Hondas.

Anyways, good kill.

Yes, it was N/A. The chances a turbo Civic would beat me are about 0% to 100%...

I can't argue with what you're trying to convey. A fact is a fact. There *IS* a turbo'd Civic somewhere in this world that's faster than my TII... Or to shed a little more light on your position and expose it further; there is a CAR in this world that's faster than mine...

I don't know if (pushing into abstract thought) a hypothetical turbo'd Civic would beat me, because 'this' Civic wasn't turbo'd. I would have to race the "turbo Civic" (that in reality doesn't exist) to get conclusive data.

My Rx7 is faster then my Dad's Mercury Tracer...

It's a fact, but do I care?

I'm sharing a factual occurance for the pleasure of my rotary brothers. You propose a hypothetical scenario that has no place in a discussion regarding reality.

From my perspective, the Civic that I raced wasn't a "slow ***" car like you kindly suggest...

Although 'fast' is purely relative, I think we can attempt to find some common ground. This Civic beat an STI and a (mods unknown) 300zxTT on the freeway.

I consider the STI a pretty fast car, even on the freeway. I'd also hold that the freeway is where a 300zxTT would perform it's best straight line performance. Although my race with the Civic wasn't quarter mile, we can assume that since it beat two 13 second, 300hp (flywheel) cars, it's decently quick.

My car didn't beat a "slow ***" car. It beat a fast Civic.

"Put a turbo on that Civic and THEN see what'd happen!"

Great.

Or, "put a 20B into my Rx7 and THEN see what'd happen!"

Conclusive data my friends. This is what we all should seek, lol.

For example:

Relevant Fact---> There is a local guy named Bill Miller who has an N/A H-22 swapped Civic coupe, that on his first day bringing it to the track ran an 11.8 quarter mile. Granted he was running No2, it was still N/A.
