Rx7 VS. WS6 Firebird... Uh oh!
I was on my way down-town to meet up with some girls at around midnight this last Friday. Anyways, I was letting a buddy drive my slightly modified Turbo II Rx7 because I had been drinking a little bit and I was being smart.
To give a little background, my Turbo II has a bad turbo that's blowing oil and the compressor-wheel is hitting the housing. Anyways, I've been keeping the boost under 10psi and the RPM's below 5k to prevent the 'hitting' (which is worse in 3rd gear+).
Anyways, my friend goes "holy sh*t, you won't believe what's coming up behind us" as we came up to a red-stoplight. I looked over and watched as a modified WS6 Firebird rolled up next to us.
My buddy commented to me about the roll-cage and gave the guy a thumbs up. The guy looked over and rolled down his window. My friend said, "nice roll-cage" and the guy just kind of nodded. What's significant about the roll-cage (in a car like this) that it's a local track requirement for cars that run in the 11's. Since this car appeared to have no other suspension-type mods, this was significant!
My friend said "I want to hear this thing", so I just looked at him and turned ON my Profec-B boost controller, onto the 'low' setting, or around 10psi. I told him to go ahead and take it to redline if he wanted to, (which isn't that smart, but whatever).
So yeah, the light turned green and my buddy slipped the clutch and launched VERY nicely and proceeded to go WOT in 1st gear. The Firebird had gone (quickly) at about 1/2 throttle, but we jumped ahead in 1st gear. The Firebird then realized that we weren't going to go 'lightly', so he went WOT and proceeded to destroy both of our ear-drums. My buddy ripped into 2nd gear and we jumped ahead while the Firebird started to go sideways as HE shifted into 2nd gear. Well, as soon as he got traction, he proceeded to ROOOOAARRRR past us and by the time we reached the middle of 3rd gear, he was about 4 cars ahead and pulling!
Anyways, it was crazy witnessing (and hearing) a likely 11-second Firebird hitting it next to us, while we did our best to keep-up.
It was funny; about 1/2 hour later my friend commented on his lack of hearing ability and I laughingly agreed. My ears had been ringing the whole time, lol.
It would've been REALLY nice to have had a good turbo installed... Not necessarily because we would've won, but just to have kept up a little better.

I'm not trying to take away from the fact that the Firebird was fast, but I've seen 16 second cars with rollcages. I wouldn't rely on that as a fact that he was running 11's.

Nice death. As much as I respect V8's and their potential for making gobs of power relatively inexpensively, I'm still more attracted to rotaries. 1- Because I think they sound cooler. 2- Because they make so much power for so little displacement. 3- Because its fun to see the expression on people's faces when you tell them its a "No-Cylinder"

Way to be the dumbest organism ever to roam the face of the planet.
(PS: that's like.. billions of years of organisms that are smarter than you)

Its called English. Lets have a lesson. When there is a Y at the end of a word, and you want to make it plural, you have to change the Y to an IE. Say the word is bunny. If you wanted to have more than one bunny, you would need to write, BUNNIES. Thats all for today class, now its time to ride the short bus home.

BTW, I still hate Firebirds etc., I especially hate the way that they sound. It honestly sounded like a dinosaur (T-rex?) was roaring right next to me, while at the same time taking the fattest $hit of his life... Just; BWAAAAARRRRFFFFFFFFLLLL!!!1
... nasty

^I'm gonna have to disagree with you there man. They can be MADE to sound like **** with incorrect exhaust mods. For example, there's a kid with one at my school and he has fart pipes on it... nothing more... and it sounds like utter ****. Now, throw that all out and put a Flowmaster catback and some decent headers and it'll sound awesome.
But at the same time, yeah rotaries sound way cooler to me.
