RX7 R1 vs. BMW 328is vs. Camaro Z28

Alrite, so this all starts out with me (93 RX7 R1) on my way home going west on I-90 just before the tunnels...you WA people know what I'm talking about...anyway, I check the mirror and see two sets of headlights bombing up behind me.

FANTASTIC!!! Possibly my first race in the new FD. I drop it in to third just in time to catch up with these two (red Camaro Z28 and a black E36 328is).

We are all about even through third and into fourth going about 120mph. We enter the tunnels and the 328is drops back behind a car and the Camaro and I go at it through the twisties.

Nearing the end of the I-90 tunnel I'm holding my position about a car length ahead of the Camaro, check my left side mirror just in time to see the 328is bombing up bimmer style through the curves.

The 328is passes both of us about 110mph on the last curve and we all go WOT on to the bridge. As we hit the end of the bridge, the 328is is about 2 cars ahead of the Camaro and the Camaro about 2 cars ahead of me and no one is pulling on anyone. DEAD EVEN!! And by this point all of us are smashing at about 140mph.

I let off and let the Camaro and the 328is keep it up as I coast slowly to a blistering 60mph!

*side note: I'm running low boost and stock cat instead of my test pipe because I had to pass emissions...That was also my first high speed run!

Very true, a lightly modded LS1 will put you in the 12's all day.

Seriously, I find myself understeering in corners, so I won't spin out, but I think i'm really underestimating FD's capabilities on RT-615s. It's scary how well this thing turns.

Yeah true, but I think it'd be interesting to see a uphill match between z06 w/ suspension vs FD w/ suspension. I wouldn't be so quick to bet my money on this match. What do you guys think?

Maybe you should make another thread in the General Auto section so this guy's thread doesn't get whored out.

really? maybe the volvo part..that IS a joke but not the information about the camaro. a BONE STOCK 91' RS Camaro (F41 Pkg) has been shown to out slalom a 99' Corvette. Once more, the stock RS (F41) pulled .88g's on the skid, pretty impressive for a base model car. once modded, the same car pulled .95 on the skidpad. Thats just springs and shocks and tires and Z28 sway bars; with more extensive mods, these same cars have yanked over 1.00g's on the skidpad. Keep in mind the 99' vette pulls .91g's on the skidpad. I'd like to know who started spreading the dis-information that domestic cars can't handle, but they most certainly can. I love RX-7's, all gens, but it just pisses me off that people think that f-bodys and other domestics can't handle. i'm not about drag racing, that is basicly a never ending pissing contest...

didn't a stock r1 pull .98 or .99 g's when it was first tested? i don't think everyone thinks a camaro can't handle, just that an fd is tough to match even with a stock suspension. i can tell you for sure that my 94 is easier to drive fast in the corners than my friends c5. the c5 may ultimately have a higher limit, but that doesn't mean it handles better.

exactly. but lets compare apples with apples here...the 3rd gen camaro started it's design process in the late seventies...the FD has alot newer technolgy and engineering standards. Lets compare a 91' RS Camaro and a 91' FC...the 91' Camaro pulls .88g's stock, and the FC pulls .89g's stock. The FC benefits from being 300 pounds lighter than the camaro. And, pardon me on the comment about 4th gen f-bod's, they are just fast pigs :P

american cars CAN handle!
