raced an EVO then got arrested

hey guys, as of now I feel like ****, the title was a hint...

well, about an hour ago I get off CA-85 on Saratoga and head north, where speed limit is around 40mph. it’s a wide open street with 3 - 4 lanes. it’s late and there isn't much traffic and I'm on the phone when notice a new black EVO slowly passed me by. his exsuhst caught my attention.
So we come to a stop at a light and he starts reving, so i get off the phone and rev back. on green he punched it and i gave it some gas too, but not much cause the next light was very close ahead. we hit the next light and now we are lined up and ready to play.

the guy looks at me and gives me thumbs up and a smile. now I’m reving to 3K, put it in 1st while holding the clutch and wait for the light (-at this moment a cop is behind us ... i wish i knew) so on green i drop the gas and noticed a Mercedes next to me joined the race too. woohoo. the EVO instantly jumps ahead 1.5 cars while I'm peeling off (yes wasn’t the best launch) but still by the end of 1st I close in alittle. quickly put it in 2nd and go full throttle, by now I still fish tale for a sec but gained traction and pulled on the evo hard, now I'm atleast 1/2 car ahead, reving to 7500 while the car screams like a monster (cuz of the waste gate) going to 3rd and pulling up to 80mph when i shut down.
now i don’t see the evo at all. but wait i see two lights approaching...oh no it looks like a cop car, but no sirens on. ya he was defiantly coming for me. now i make a right on my street and still got no sirens on. then he quickly pulls ahead, puts the sirens on and cuts me off.(wtf?) "shut down the engine sir! Get out the car" he throw me on the patrol car, puts my hands on the car, took my wallet, then the part that i think enjoyed the most.....he cuffed me and yelled in my ear "YOU ARE UNDER ARREST"
after he checked on my record he said he let me walk, but the car will be impounded...ouch.
now 3 other cops show up and pop my hood start looking around (when im still cuffed in the cops car)
of course non of them knew **** about it, so one officer walks over and he goes "what’s with the blue pipes?" then he says "how big is the engine?"
i replied "1.3L" ...the look on his face was a must see
"the officer says he couldn't close the gap when following you, what you got in there?"
-"a rotary" didn’t really want to give details to him. no one would.

then i heard the other officer talking to other cops "he was running away from me, didn't stop" hello? you should put your freaking sirons on so i would know, you dumb f***.

any ways, he tickets me for 23109 (speed contest) and a fix it ticket for loud exhust.
my car is taken away, and now I’m released to walk away.
then i ask the officer, "you watched the whole thing?"
-"I was right behind you at the light, and knew what was about to go down"
-"so you always let the slow guys go?"
- he smiled,” it’s up to me to go after"
- lady officer goes "i always go after the fastest guy"

anyhow, I’ll be depressed for while i think. ....... any one got a speed contest ticket ever? how bad is it? got anything to say to make me feel better?
am I finished?
oh, my car puts 350whp.

lol. I know you feel like ****, but that was funny.

I don't really have any experience with it either, but I know someone who was arrested for speed contest. A ricer Civic revved on him at a light, and while the Civic launched, he drove completely normal. However, a cop that was watching took it as a race, so they were both pulled over. The guy I know was arrested, and in addition to having his car impounded, he spent the night in jail. He had never been in any trouble with the law whatsoever prior, yet they still made him go in. So even if it doesn't seem like much, you're still lucky you didn't have to go through all that bullshit.

Wish you the best

You can problably fight it. Isn;t he suppose to turn his lights on if hes going after someone?? Isn't there a camera mounted on police cars to record whats happening?

That sucks man. I got caught in 2001 for the same thing. My friends got tickets for about $500.00 and some xhundred hours of community service. I opted for the $1000 w/o community service. I had a few grand in the bank at the time and was single. They wanted to make an example out of me. The Fast and the Furious came out a few months before that.

It took about 950.00 or so to get my car back from the impound. They impound it for thirty days most of the time.

I wouldn't get a lawyer unless I knew he was damn good at fighting those charges. You're only going to spend more money. I would go in front of the judge by myself and ask for leniency and a reduction in fine. It worked for my last speeding ticket. It saved me 50% of the cost of the ticket. Ask a court house employee if he or she knows who is the most forgiving judge and try to schedule your court date and time.

i got 2 speed contest tickets in my evo. needless to say i dont race anymore. i got out of both though. GET A LAWYER! my second race ticket it was knocked down to "mechanical malfunction." i paid $150 to a lawyer and save 1000's from insurance and driving schools, etc. even though i never had to pay full cost of having these tickets stay on my lisense, I still learned enough to not race... as much, or if i know we are all, alone... sometimes people **** me off.

speed contest is only a 2 point offence? I got a 5 point ticket for doing 37 over the speed limit by myself(not a race, just stupid.), and running a stop sign got me 3 points, I don't know how racing could be 2...

Woot Woot! LoL I got pulled over for 125 mph a few weeks ago off 101 South around Blossom Hill. Youre looking around 800.00 to 1,000.00 fine for speed contest and around 1,000.00 for 30 day impound. I know cause I got this ticket before. Good luck

God forbid I ever buy a single turbo supra and get caught speeding on the highway. I don't think I'd stop for the cops...

and now, since the ricers in VANCOUVER cant race right ( by that i mean killing bystanders, passangers & getting into hig speed accident )
the rest of Canada has to pay for your stupid ways...
they are thinking of making street racing a criminal act, this mean if u get caught racing u go to jail.

its in the news everywhere in Montreal & Toronto.
lucky for me i live near 4 highways, and i dont "street race" ... i do highway races & industrial park drifting ...

ohh BTW here in Montreal the cops follow until you hit 200 kmh, or if they trap you at that speed ( laser), they dont even go after you. hahah i know i saw more then 5-6 that were looking at me ( jaws dropped on the floor) when i passed them at 305 kmh with my Skyline-powered 240sx !!!!

Here you go. Read the bold. Basically, you fucked yourself.

23109. (a) A person shall not engage in a motor vehicle speed
contest on a highway. As used in this section, a motor vehicle speed
contest includes a motor vehicle race against another vehicle, a
clock, or other timing device. For purposes of this section, an
event in which the time to cover a prescribed route of more than 20
miles is measured, but where the vehicle does not exceed the speed
limits, is not a speed contest.
(b) A person shall not aid or abet in any motor vehicle speed
contest on any highway.
(c) A person shall not engage in any motor vehicle exhibition of
speed on a highway, and no person shall aid or abet in a motor
vehicle exhibition of speed on any highway.
(d) A person shall not for the purpose of facilitating or aiding
or as an incident to any motor vehicle speed contest or exhibition
upon a highway in any manner obstruct or place a barricade or
obstruction or assist or participate in placing a barricade or
obstruction upon any highway.
(e) (1) A person convicted of a violation of subdivision (a) shall
be punished by imprisonment in a county jail for not less than 24
hours nor more than 90 days or by a fine of not less than three
hundred fifty-five dollars ($355) nor more than one thousand dollars
($1,000), or by both that fine and imprisonment. That person shall
also be required to perform 40 hours of community service. The court
may order the privilege to operate a motor vehicle suspended for 90
days to six months, as provided in paragraph (8) of subdivision (a)
of Section 13352. The person's privilege to operate a motor vehicle
may be restricted for 90 days to six months to necessary travel to
and from that person's place of employment and, if driving a motor
vehicle is necessary to perform the duties of the person's
employment, restricted to driving in that person's scope of
employment. This subdivision does not interfere with the court's
power to grant probation in a suitable case.
(2) If a person is convicted of a violation of subdivision (a) and
that violation proximately causes bodily injury to a person other
than the driver, the person convicted is punishable by imprisonment
in a county jail for not less than 30 days nor more than six months
or by a fine of not less than five hundred dollars ($500) nor more
than one thousand dollars ($1,000), or by both the fine and
imprisonment.
(f) (1) If a person is convicted of a violation of subdivision (a)
for an offense that occurred within five years of the date of a
prior offense that resulted in a conviction of a violation of
subdivision (a), that person shall be punished by imprisonment in a
county jail for not less than four days nor more than six months, and
by a fine of not less than five hundred dollars ($500) nor more than
one thousand dollars ($1,000).
(2) If the perpetration of the most recent offense within the
five-year period described in paragraph (1) proximately causes bodily
injury to a person other than the driver, a person convicted of that
second violation shall be imprisoned in a county jail for not less
than 30 days nor more than six months and by a fine of not less than
five hundred dollars ($500) nor more than one thousand dollars
($1,000).
(3) If the perpetration of the most recent offense within the
five-year period described in paragraph (1) proximately causes
serious bodily injury, as defined in paragraph (4) of subdivision (f)
of Section 243 of the Penal Code, to a person other than the driver,
a person convicted of that second violation shall be imprisoned in
the state prison, or in a county jail for not less than 30 days nor
more than one year, and by a fine of not less than five hundred
dollars ($500) nor more than one thousand dollars ($1,000).
(4) The court shall order the privilege of a person convicted
under paragraph (1), (2), or (3), to operate a motor vehicle
suspended for a period of six months, as provided in paragraph (9) of
subdivision (a) of Section 13352. In lieu of the suspension, the
person's privilege to operate a motor vehicle may be restricted for
six months to necessary travel to and from that person's place of
employment and, if driving a motor vehicle is necessary to perform
the duties of the person's employment, restricted to driving in that
person's scope of employment. This subdivision does not interfere
with the court's power to grant probation in a suitable case.
(g) If the court grants probation to any person punishable under
subdivision (f), in addition to the provisions of subdivision (f) and
any other terms and conditions imposed by the court, which may
include a fine, the court shall impose as a condition of probation
that the person be confined in a county jail for not less than 48
hours nor more than six months. The court shall order the person's
privilege to operate a motor vehicle to be suspended for a period of
six months, as provided in paragraph (9) of subdivision (a) of
Section 13352 or restricted pursuant to subdivision (f).
(h) If a person is convicted of a violation of subdivision (a) and
the vehicle used in the violation is registered to that person, the
vehicle may be impounded at the registered owner's expense for not
less than one day nor more than 30 days.
(i) Any person who violates subdivision (b), (c), or (d) of this
section shall upon conviction thereof be punished by imprisonment in
a county jail for not more than 90 days or by a fine of not more than
five hundred dollars ($500) or by both that fine and imprisonment.
(j) If a person's privilege to operate a motor vehicle is
restricted by a court pursuant to this section, the court shall
clearly mark the restriction and the dates of the restriction on that
person's driver's license and promptly notify the Department of
Motor Vehicles of the terms of the restriction in a manner prescribed
by the department. The Department of Motor Vehicles shall place that
restriction in the person's records in the Department of Motor
Vehicles and enter the restriction on any license subsequently issued
by the Department of Motor Vehicles to that person during the period
of the restriction.
(k) The court may order that any person convicted under this
section, who is to be punished by imprisonment in a county jail, be
imprisoned on days other than days of regular employment of the
person, as determined by the court.
(l) This section shall be known and may be cited as the Louis
Friend Memorial Act.
