i thought the SAME way you did about the SRT-4. my brother bought one, i HATED the living **** out of it. got in it, felt the power, and that was that. changed the way i looked at that car in every prespective and driving it is a whole different feeling.

the car has good handling.

i don't judge a car on what it can do in a straight line, but what it can do in an all around course.

what "out-of-the-box" honda in its price range can compete with it, being in a straight line or road course?

i don't know how it's a POS car, "our" SRT-4 dyno'd in at 240whp/260trq with ONLY catback, no downpipe. those engines can take a serious beating, very well built in my opinion.
yeah yeah yeah mr.neon leg humper

Well I have a neon so I gotta put in a little word. Now I know my neon is slow, 135 horse on a good day, but dodge did do a fairly good job at the car. It is geared fairly well and has a nice sport feel to it. Overall it is a grocery getter. The SRT-4 though is much different, If I could own one I would. Thee major flaw in them, they are front wheel drive, if they made a rwd Neon/SRT-4 it would be a fun car to drive. Ive never driven a miata before but I believe it would be very comparable. Another good point about the SRT-4, stock it has 200+ horse, Mopar has stage 1-3 upgrades that when you buy them through Mopar and have a Mopar mechanic install it, you still have your 5 year 50,000 mile warranty. Can an STi or EVO match that? Bottom line they are front wheel drive though which = no fun, Heavy understeer no power sliding no fun.

^^^ one of the greatest things about them, STRONG factory support. I know we have mazdaspeed, but sometimes i feel they're a bit lacking. I think people bag on SRT-4s just to be trendy. I mean there are some shitty FWD turbo cars (MX-6/626 for two), but the SRT-4 seems like it has some thought put into it(iron block, newer ones come with quaife LSD). AFA the cobalt ss vs the srt-4, i read a magazine comparison, and they did pretty much the same at the track (autox).

If you're thinking about comparing a Neon's handling to a Miata's then you should stop typing.

I don't know about STI's, but my Evo came with a 10yr/100k mile warranty, and it started out 1 second faster in the 1/4 than the SRT4. Take it to anything with turns and you have complete ownage. Both the STI and Evo will be faster than an SRT4 mod for mod with the gap growing as you throw more hp onto the FWD car. I only see the appeal for someone that wants to feel good that they beat something that costs more in a Neon, but you don't exactly see oodles of them racing anywhere other than the 1/4 or the street.

Straight lines = boring or we would all have Mustangs and F-bodies, which might I add are cheaper and faster than SRT4's.

PS Crappy powered cars make up with good handlng. You don't see alot of GOOD handling from Vettes, Stangs (V8), etc. They have good power, but leaf suspension is teh suck.
please tell me your joking... yes, the vette has the mono leaf in the front and rear but it is a great handling car, maybe not ferrari good, unless you pony up for the Z06. and the new cobra has IRS and a nice fat power band with good handling, concidering the car's portly weight.
