need some advise....can i win?

ok so here it is...i was at work(fesitival foods) so of course theres a big parking lot....so some one there was talking about drifting and i told them i drift in mine (87 TII) so i told them that i could drfit about 75 meters in a single bend around this parking lot....they of course didnt beleive me, just to prove them wrong i did. and as i pulled around and let my car cool down to turn it off, they came over to inspect....yada yada yada they got around to talking about this kid who has a newer style v6 grand am. as far as i know its bone stock. so they were talking **** about how he could win and every thing so i told them i would race him... i was wondering if i can take him.

some of the mods
RB full racing exaust with mid pipe
cone intake (s-tune)
720 secs
10mm magnacore wires
cleaned primes
tuned apexi safc 1 ((with wideband) lm-1))
boost controller about 11 psi
hks BOV
r-tek 1.7

im just a wee bit nurvous cuz this is the first time the opposing side has accually talked **** on me....like real bad...

FWIW, the 2005/2006 grand am have a wopping 175 hp, and 205 lb-ft tq. Weight comes in at about 3100 lbs. (coupe), and they are only available in an auto. If it's a 4 door (heavier), than it's older than a 2005, since the 2005-up only come in coupes. I don't think there's a diffrence in power in the older ones. If there is, it's not by much, and probably less.

BOOST IT UP WHEN IN DOUBT!!! when those grand ams get going they move but if you shift good and dont take it past 6-7k rpm then you should be good...Use all the boost you can during mid ranges to over-power him, forsure you better WIN!!! ill keep my fingers crossed and keep us updated

That's more like 4X.

Launch at about 3500 and feather the clutch if you need to in order to keep traction. If your tires are spinning, then you're not accelerating as hard as you could be.

You should have no trouble owning that Grand Am. They're dogs--big, heavy, automatic, and they run out of steam. Now if it's the GTP Supercharged version w/ some mods, then it might be a driver's race--they're pretty quick.

Race him and find out. If he beats you, then challenge him to a race in the twisties.

WTF are you guys talking about? A V6 Grand Am does 0-60 in about 7.5-8 seconds. A stock TII should be able to annihalate this guy....let alone a modded one!

i didnt think they made supercharged grand ams i know they make grand prixs like that i knew a guy with a modded grand prix gtp and he said his best time was a 14.0 i think a guy down here ran a high 15 with a new grand am so you should be able to beat it

my dad has a Gran Prix GTP Comptition Group and can most likely run low 13's with a bit over 300 hp. Smaller s/c pully intake stuff, eibach suspension.

SkatingSamurai practice somewhere different RPM launches and try not to have your tires burning out...You want to take out SMOOTHLY ALMOST LIKE A CLUTCH BURNING TAKE OFF, make sure also when the car hooks fully and is out the hole you are in a RPM range that the turbo is boosting already so you dont loose like a whole second trying to gain speed

Alright...Alright...let me be the end all, want to know why??? Because I am actually one of the most veteran people in the Grand Am community. A 2000 Grand Am GT was my first new car back in the day when I graduated college, it was my first jump into cars and learning to modify them. To this day I am still a prominent member on the Grand Am board and help people out (coincidentally because of this I am known as a bastard their because I am tired of the ricer ***** coming in now). I had one of the 10 built Eaton Magnuson SC kits for the GAGT 3400 that was modeled after the 1999 SEMA Grand Am SC/T. I have personally toured the assembly plants (that are now shut down) and I have spoken with the head engineer and design engineer. Now with that said, Eventually I moved on and up in the world as I got older and could afford more.

So, now that this is out of the way...I will tell you that whoever this dipshit is that said that, is a ******* moron and the exact type of ******* us "Grand Am vets" are tired of. We older guys knew the GA was not a fireball, but we enjoyed competing against the ricer Civic/Focus/Integra crowd. There is no way in hell a Grand Am is going to drift...period, unless this dipshit thinks speeding up and pulling the ebrake quickly counts. AS for racing...I know just about every guy who has an SC and the only one in PA/OH area is a nice guy who is actually very fast (13.7 for a GAGT is fast), but would never do the **** you are speaking of. Therefore, this guy has a V6 automatic, that's the only way they are made. If you have a quarter mile time under 15.4 you will take him.

I will be posting this on the board over there and letting it be known that if that person exists on there, we'll be flaming him a new ***.

No it will not run low 13's, more like mid to low 14's at the most with just a pulley and intake. My fiance even owns a '04 GTP CompG

It's really surprising how slow your car actually is once you get on the track compared to your butt dyno. (Personal experience with my old n/a gtu)
