good race, while i don't intend to flame anyone i do agree with the ppl saying you should be careful. public roads can be dangerous so just watch out. on the other hand most of the ppl here have raced at one point or another on public roads (or else the kill section would be very small), so its hypocritical to say not to do it at all. as long as you expect the worst situation you won't be dissapointed. Drive as though you expect of drivers to be dumasses so ur ready for anything. hell, i'm only 21 and not much older than you and i admit that i race on the street, i try and make safe choices and not zip through traffic. open roads are one thing just watch the cars in fornt of you. lol. still every now and then taking it to the track would be good as well as good practice. i realize you don't have the money but they normally cost $25 so i'm sure at some point u could at least hit a few. good luck and nice kill

lol, its funny all these people lurking in the kills section are talking so much **** about a kill. Nice kill, them sti's are fast. I am willing to bet that every person lurking in the kills section, has raced someone on the street. Mabey not to 155, but they dont realize that 50 or 60 in a 35 is just as illegal, and just as dangerous. You could kill someone doing 5 over the limit if you arent a carefull driver. so get over yourselves.

well atleast we know that thru all of Romancer's wisdom and life experience, he does no street racing. OH WAIT, WHAT'S THAT?

from his thread here https://www.rx7club.com/automotive-news-lounge-22/acura-cl-dunno-if-type-s-goes-down-hard-477554/

"Alright, the last night, I went(with my 04 GT) out to get one of those WAWA(a common convenience store in NJ and some parts of PA) sandwiches. On my way home, there is no one on the road and I am cruising in the middle lane. I am about 1,000 feet from my turn off(so i get in the far right llane) when I see HID's coming up fast in my rear view. I knew it was someone with a high price car thinking he was king of the road(as usual). The light in front of me turns red, and I wanted to see if the car wanted to play so I turn off my signal and sit in the far right lane . I saw that the car was a CL by the body design, I was not able to see whether it was a type S or not. A white fox also pulls next to me, he didn't join in. It was a guy about my age sittting in the drivers seat. The light turns red and the CL takes off fast. I feather the throttle to prevent spin and take chase.

I pass him by about 3 cars, while i was next to him for a split second, I heard his engine winding out. About 1 second later, we approach another light. The light turns red. LMAO. The CL guy keeps looking forward and the light turns green. This time, adrenaline takes over and I mash the gas. Im sitting at the light spinning while the CL gets about a 3 car lead on me. When I finally hook, I easily pass him and continue to pull about two busses on him until I finally shut down, and slow down to the speed limit, so it is clear to him that I stopped. Not that it made a difference, he flew by me about 10 seconds later. I dunno whether it was a type S or not. A type S has 260 hp, just as much as me, and I dunno my torque advantage would make a 2 BUS difference. Type S has has 232lb/ft. I have 302 lb/ft. But whatever. Type S or not. The guy got owned. I had my fun for the week. "

You're lucky your car's brakes are up to par with the rest of it.

Along with nice kill, of course. STI's are no joke, but their top end is a little bit meh....

Also, just think about it. Speed limit was probably 55-65... you doubled it, and then some. Imagine if somehow a cop managed to pull you over....

Be careful, man. And like I've said in every ******* kill thread of yours, HEAD TO THE GOD DAMN AUTO-X!!

Ah, to be young and stupid.

Congrats on the kill. I'm sure it was quite a rush. I hope you do realize just how stupid it was, though. I've done similar things when I was younger, including getting up to 140 on the highway in an RX-7. Eventually you'll realize that it really isn't worth it, though.

I agree with the people that are suggesting you take your car out to the track. It really is a whole different experience, and it will teach you a lot about the car and your driving skill. Personally I think a corvette, let alone a z06, is too much car for anyone under 20. If you have the opportunity to own one, however, more power to you. Just try to keep the speed to a more controlled environment. It can be pricey, but it's absolutely worth it in the end.

Awsome kill, The STI was def modded to be keeping up with a ZO6 on the HWY. yea u gotta be carefull on the turns of the freeway, never know wats happening on the other side. Its wise to be on the outside (even though the inside car will have an advantage) so u car see better wats on the other side, and so u can easily go to the soulder and not hit the other cars ***. Ive been in some scary "oh **** oh ****" situations too and it is very scary.

Honestly, I think im starting to get to that point. Ive done alot of stupid stuff (and i dont mind admitting that this was one time, albeit fun) but im starting to realize, a ticket just isnt worth it. Especially over 100 in cali. there goes your liscense...

I havent been over 100 in about 3 months, save one time, to 140 on a deserted freeway, at 2am. And I shut down immediately aftewards. I suppose im learning a little bit that i cant be wreckless all the time, but it is fun.

I am waiting for another autocross event in the area so that I can go, Spot Skater, and im looking forward to it. I may even have my GTU running in time to take that...

Nice to hear that. You will def be more competitive in the Z06, but the 7 is a very fun car, but not the best for auto-x, given the low tq it has down low. It seems as if you drive the Vette more, so you may want to think about taking that.

Also, do a quick google search about autocross and it will give you some good information, regarding what to expect and stuff like that. It will explain walking the course, cone placement and what it means, and basically to show up and tell people "YO IM A NOOB!." A lot of guys there will be more than happy to talk to you, and give you some tips and tricks and some advice here and there. And DO NOT be afraid to have an instructor take a few runs with you. I would suggest your first two runs at MINIMUM you have an instructor ride with you.

I thought I was a good driver, up until my first autocross. My instructor told me I was "over-driving" my car, and that I wasn't too smooth and to try to work on that. Along with some other things, after he told me I managed to take about 2 seconds off my previous best lap. Granted this was on my six or seventh run, out of 8, so I had lots of time to practice the course...

Either way, it is a very safe and EXHILERATING way to have fun in your car. Nothing like pushing your car to its limits without worrying about killing yourself, or breaking your car. Plus you will REALLY learn car control.

Ive done slick track, and karting. They are fun, and they help you learn things like rolling the throttle instead of punching it, braking enough so that you are RIGHT on the edge, but its completely different with a 300 lb gokart, and a 3000 pound car. When i was karting, each lap picked up (on average) just a little bit more, and alittle bit more each time.

I loved it. I want it to be a career (driving and racing) Its a rush.

I too have come to the conclusion that street racing is a bad idea and have mostly grown out of it. I use to break 110MPH every day on my way to work down the back roads in my 300ZX, now I just gimp around at 80MPH and call it good. Just not worth losing your license or wrecking your car..... and I don't get the same rush anymore unless I'm going over 130-140 (Not good in public). I must say that a big part of slowing me down came as a result of wrecking at high speed, that kind of takes the wind out of your sails.

I enjoy autocross with my MR2..... not sure how the 7 will do. If I keep the RX-7 I think it will end up more of a track day car then an autocross car. The street port makes it kind of peaky on the powerband.
