My Z06 vs 2001 M3

I was out with a buddy, going to go just catch a movie, hang out, make cat calls at good looking girls, and I was merging from the 80 to the 80 business loop. Well, this BMW (those headlights are a dead give away) pulls up behind me really quick.

So I decide, alright, well, least I can do is get out of the guys way. I speed up to about 80, and move over when I get the chance. He gets up next to me, stays there a second, and moves over to the fast lane (still in traffic at this point). Well, we go past reed, get to the top of the hill, and at the top of the hill I see that traffic breaks. I move over, all the way to the slow lane, making space for him. He moves over, downshifts, and takes off. I do the same. I pulled about a bus and a half on him to 140ish, flashed the hazards, slowed down, and turned on my interior light. I flashed him "hang loose" and turned the light back off. I heard him downshift again, so again, I drop it into third, at about 75. I let him make the first move, and he takes off. He pulls a little on me, since I let him make the call, and then I reel him in at the top of third. I pass him as im shifting into 4th, and pull another bus on him, flash the hazards and shut it down.

This time he rolls up next to me, turns on his light, and flashes me a thumbs up, which I returned. Seemed like a really cool guy. Thankfully the cops didnt see it, but damn I had fun.

Didn't relize the M3 could hang to a degree with a ZO6. I though it would be complete murder but a car and a half ain't bad for the M3

Z06 is bad-*** and hard to beat. Good kill and sounds like you had fun, and the other driver was cool too. THAT always makes for a good race.

Well, I read the car and driver test, they ran it a couple years ago, 2001 Z06, 2001 M3, and I think the Porshe Carrerra. Z06 came out on top in all tests. M3 was closer in the twisties than it was on straight line performance, but it wasnt too far off in any catagory. Amazing what those germans can do with a 6cyl.

I just wanted to see for myself how badly the Z06 would beat the M3, but its always cool when the other driver has fun and flashes a thumbs up or something similar. But its all the more fun if every one involved is cool with it.

Oh, and the suit comment, I say that now because if youll look up the first couple posts I made here, and even some of the recent ones, theres a page or so of flame in them...dont want to get burned you see ^_^

I daily drive my 04 M3 and I havent had a vette pull on me that bad I can beat most light to light. A zo6 is a faster car but both of you going highway speeds and you pull on him that bad. He must not know how to drive the car. They do need to be wound out the like the RX since they have the same red line.

Good kill though.

Well, I know for sure they made some changes between 01 and 04, but not sure exactly what. A friend of mine said they did some more head work, and valve train, but I could be wrong, I didnt research it. I dont doubt that you can beat one, or match it, light to light, M3's are fast little buggers.

He could drive the car just fine from what I saw, he didnt miss a shift. Take into account the hp and tq that an 01 M3 made, and factor in the weight. Then do the same for the 01 Z06. At that point, look at the gears, and where the shifts drop the rpm to, and note where it is on the power band. I simply just had more than he did at those speeds.

Not trying to rag on you or anything, as I can see that youre clearly trying to defend your car (and believe me, I have nothing against BMW, or the M series) but I think it was just a matter of more power.

Thanks!

rotary noobs z06 is an 01, therefore it's a 385hp glorified vette, not the 500hp you're thinking of. He puts "My Z06" instead of "01 Z06" so people assume it's a C6.

^^ Or maybe its just that I've posted about it 4 or 5 other times...and I figure people know by now.

If i wanted them to think it was a C6, I could probably bull **** it. But theres no reason to, and any year Z06 is hard as hell to beat. The gearing and power is right where it needs to be. Not saying invincible, just hard to beat.

And, riddle me this batman, if I were trying to get people to think it was a C6, why in gods name would I refer to the 01 Z06 for a comparison between the M3 and not the 06 Z06?

"Take into account the hp and tq that an 01 M3 made, and factor in the weight. Then do the same for the 01 Z06."

nice kill. One Q. though: why put the hazards on? cops know what it means so all you are doing is bringing attention to yourself.

At 140, I really dont think it matters, they would pull me over either way. I put the hazards on to show him that I was done (there were still a couple cars around, just not jam-packed traffic) and not to fly by and possibly hit someone.

Ah, no mods so far. Probably wont do anything, but IF i did, would probably get a borla exhaust system, upgrade the throttle body, and get the intake manifold ported. Free up an extra 30 ponies, and 50 ftlbs. And of course remap the ECU for the increased flow. Its fine as it is though. I would only get more tickets if i gave it more power...

Most folk know they have gotten beat.

Exactly why do more?

put it this way. A cop is entering the on ramp, or passing by on a bridge with a freeway entrance, or even on a road that is adjacent to the freeway for the sake of argument just far enough away that the officer would not notice. Rotary noob who is 1/4 mile away has just turned on his hazzards after his first race. Cop says "humn, whats going on over there". Rotary noob is now at 70 and punches it again but this time he has a cops full attention.

The second they saw me, forget about anything else i was doing, if they saw me the cherries and berries are going on regardless. The hazards could be interpreted as brakes, because i let it flash once. However, at those speeds, theyre still gonna pull me over.

This guy kept running till i flashed every time. He might have known he would get beaten, but i personally dont think he cared. He just wanted to have some fun, like me.

Thing is though, even if a cop had seen me, the right side of the freeway was locked with traffic, all moving at around 70. He would have had to light it up, and then come after me. Downshift, downshift, downshift, move over, and when he pulls me over ask for his radar reading, or if he paced me. He still cant prove a damn thing without either one of those. And im intelligent enough to not say a speed...they can use that against you too.

Turning on your hazzards usually pisses them off more. They take it as a taunt and not as a "I'm done."

I'm pretty sure he tried to chase you down to try to get some more runs in.
