My RX7 vs. 117 cu in Bike

I don't know what kind of bike this was. I assume it was a custom bike. It looked somewhat like a chopper but it didn't have the long handle bars. Anyway the only writing I could see on the bike was on the block which read "117 cu". The guy was wearing jeans and a helmet but no shirt. He looked to be in his late 20s. I followed him onto the highway were we cruised at 80mph. We were both in the left lane on a two lane interstate (55/70) heading towards St. Louis. The road has a gradual 90 degree curve in it to make the highway go from south to west. Right before the curve starts he guns it. Here we go........

He is about 30-35 feet infront of me when he hit it. Again we were going 80mph. I was also running 15psi (I made 450who at 17psi). There were cars in the right lane as we entered the curve. During the curve neither one of us pulled on each other. I just kept the same 30ft distance behind him. He had the bike leaning so far that he could have hit the road with his knee. After the turn was up I starting catching up. By now I was running past 100mph. By 135mph I had caught up with him and we were side by side. He looked at me and his face read . I decided to keep going. By 155 I really started pulling on him hard. The highway up ahead was completely clear so I decided to keep going since the guy on the motorcycle was still on it too. But something scary started happening that made me lift off. The steering wheel felt like it was floating. I think it is because of my manual steering rack but the wheel started floating left to right (about 2-3 inches each way) but the car didn't react. It was like the steering wheel was twitching left to right but the car stayed straight almost like the front wheels were floating . So I let off right before I clipped 160mph and he was 2-3 bus lengths back. He caught up and I gave him a thumbs up and he threw me a peace sign. I think he was definitely surprised that I caught him. It was the coolest race, wish I had caught it on video. Big props to the bike rider, it was one nice bike, just wish I knew what kind it was.

just kiding, haha great story, sounds like you found the areodynamic limits of the car and your front end was lifting. BTW 95% chance it was a S&S motor, 110HP, one of the best Vtwins out there, and judging by the top end it had to have a baker 6sp tranny.

Does anyone know what kind of bike this was? Also how would a R6 or any other 600cc bike match up against this one from the 80mph - 160mph that we raced from. Again, from 140mph on I pulled like a ****.

A R6 would eat that Cruiser bike alive. Those custom bikes run at the track all the time........... 12 second missles.

V twins make more torque that inline 4's. BUT the areo advantage the r6 would have offset any HP/torque it is lacking. Top speed runs depend on a good areo package, cruisers loose fast on the top end, BUT the choppers with the streched frontends/frames can be VERY quick due to the fact you wont wheelie over. I personally am in love with this bike http://www.buell.com/en_us/mania/racing/xbrr.asp

My neighbor has a Harley that is stretched and has a different sprocket set. He said it eats sport bikes all day long from stoplight to stoplight because of something called TORQUE. Again 117 cu '' bike isn't just some "cruiser." His lack of top end was shown by me pulling away like mad at 140mph +++.
