My runs and times at the track last night.

Well, I finally took my 280ZX N/A to the track for a night of fun. Now, the only thing I have done to it is a cold air intake and a cut off muffler, so it's pretty much stock. I don't have my slips with me, but I'll get the full times and speeds from each run posted.
My first run was against an Integra (not sure what model) with spray (not sure what hp). Anyway, this is my FIRST time at a 1/4 mile track... EVER!!! I do a small burnout and accidentally deep stage (OOPS) and wait for the Integra to do the same. I bring my revs up to about 3k ish and hold them there. The amber bulbs light up and I launch SO nicely, spinning a little off the line and immediately pulling ahead. I top 1st and catch 2nd, pulling ahead a little more when I hear the Teg start to spray, but somthing was either fubard with his car, or his car was slow, because I just kept pulling ahead. On that run, I let off at the 1,000ft mark on accident and got a 16.2. My R/T was .8xx (not all that great, but its my first time) and my 300ft was 2.3xx.

2nd Run was against my friend's '93 Licoln MkVIII. We line up, light goes green and we leave the line at about the same time, but I start pulling ahead. I top first gear and catch 2nd gear and open the gap up a little bit. Top second, catch 3rd and keep the gap opening ever so slightly. I hit the top of 3rd at the 1/4 beam and shut down. 15.66 @ 86.5x mph, R/T 1.1xx (ewww), 300ft 2.3xx.

3rd Run involved a Dodge Dakota R/T 360. He had me off the line by about half a car, and it stayed that way until about the 1/8 mile, when the gap slowly started to get wider. I ran a 15.62 @86.5x mph, R/T of 1.0xx 300ft still in the 2.3's.

4th Run was with a turbo Honda Civic hatch ('99 or so) that wasn't quite running right. I took him off the line and had a good half car on him until the 1/8, when he slowly crept ahead of me and ran his 15.1x to my 15.8x.

5th Run (and a waste of time, lol) was with my friend's Hyunda Sonata... he ran an 18.1x... to my 15.6x... nuff said.

All in all, I'm really impressed with the car. I went there looking forward to mid to low 16's and I ran mid 15's! Sure as hell blew my mind. Still not a fast car, but damn if it wasn't fun. I'll get my slips next time and post all of the information, but my memory serves me pretty good on the main things. Next, I'm doing a little head work and a cam upgrade, as well as exhaust and possibly nitrous. I'm hoping to have a mid 14 second DD, high 13 second with spray. Well, I'll talk to you later.

Not too bad for stock. I have owned a few z's and my favorite one was my 71 240. It was a bit scary at the top though.

Good job for your first time out!

I'am curious what the R/T and the Mark 8 ran in the 1/4 and their trap speed.

Damn, no more responses? Not even flaming reminding me of how lucratively slow my car is?

your cars slow!

Happy?

Nice job for your first time out, i'd say you got good times concidering that the only listing of times i could find for a 280ZX non-turbo was 16.9s in the 1/4 mile.

back in the day(early 80s) I had a 77 280 z.I remember a highly modded bob sharp 82 zx turbo being for sale at a local dealership. The owner told me that NOS worked real well on 280 z motors. The bob sharp z was running a modded turbo, not NOS.

In the day that was one of the faster cars on the street. Those times are VERY impressive out of a stock 280ZX. The car must be a ringer.

Sorry haven't checked this for a while.
When manufactures make cars, bikes, boats etc. some just seem to be put together with "all the right parts". You can take two brand new cars and one will be faster than the other. When you get a vehicle that is faster than the rest it is called a "ringer".

Oh okay. Thank you for clearing that up. Man, maybe I'm lucky with my car. It's a turd on the outside, so I guess that makes it a bit of a sleeper huh?
