what is it with dicks and vr4's . i was driving from my gf's house at 10 at night to go get gas back country roads and this vr4 tailgated me for 10 mins slowing and speeding up like a ricer..... then stomped on it when i turned in... its like wtf guy im trying to enjoy a NICE CAR

 

damn. So i went down to SD last night to do the 1/8 mile drags that they host at qualcomm. Guess who i run into after my first 2 passes. The dude with the black vr-4 i raced a few days prior on the freeway. Anyways, i ran 2 times against him. the first time he jumped the gun and i still beat him. i ran a 8.613 @ 84.11 mph against him the first time and a 8.69 @84.26 mph the second time. his car was trapping 8.8 stock. i was impressed. Anyways, the last run of the night, i snapped my axles..lol. damn! i had to get a tow from qualcomm all the way to oceanside, the dude only charged me $150 bucks. place is called millennium towing. Back to the dude with the vr-4. I asked him about the race on the freeway, he said he was trying..lol. He was like " i was going good, until i heard this ungodly sound, then my car didnt seem like it was moving".. lol. i thought that was funny. i have a few timeslips i will get scanned later also.

 

That's pretty awesome that you actually got to talk to the guy! His times do not surpise me given that Vr's are all wheel drive (someone flame me if I'm wrong please). IMO the track at q-com is too short to actually spread your wings so people think their cars are better than they really are. Sorry to hear about your axels.

I have officially retired from dropping the hammer on people on the street so I'm looking at q-com to tame the inner beast. One of the things that concerned me was my stock drive train. I guess I have my answer now... Need to upgrade first lol.

 

ok, so i figured out exactly went wrong with my car. My axles are fine, the driver side axle tripod joint popped out of the boot. The reason for that was because my driver side strut was blown causing it to squat to far on one side on the launch.. it popped right out. so, im going to pack it with grease again, put it back in and call it a day. well, i need new rear struts..

you are absolutely right Fris, im looking around for a good set right now, im going to take it easy until i get them.

 

I have had mine for about 2 years now with Aspec's longrunner manifold. I love it. Although my tires do not.. I was hoping I could get away with the stock rims and my potenza's for a while but I cannot go full boost (only 15psi) until 3rd gear and then I have to be careful. With stock ports and a conservative tune at 15psi I am putting down just over 400 to the wheels which is where I told my tuner I would like the car.

On your suspension quest I can recommend Stance coilovers. Although I would call and speak with them and get some softer springs iinstead of the 12kg that come by default. They are just too stiff.

 

i just found out that my bolts that support the differential snapped off.. my suspension, still sucks on my driver side, but thats not the issue. its the bolts.. damn. i had just ordered the banzai racing diff brace too.. i guess it wasnt early enough.

 

am i missing something here? your fd is going stock 1/4 times and traps yet you have a single turbo?

 

im only pushing 300hp, plus i wasn't getting very good launches.. so, yea..lol. I say in a few months im going to be upgrading my wastegate spring and re-tuning with methanol injection. I'm guessing alittle over 400hp. Once i get all that done, I'm sure i will have a lot better times. by then my launches should be better also. I just bought a banzai racing diff brace, I'm looking for the trans brace also, but they are hard to find. I'm also trying to find any weak points in my drivetrain, also trying to figure out a good tire combination. plus i need some rear shocks or coilovers.

I'm ran very low 8's that night, my best run the stupid machine didn't print out , so that doesnt count. i had a good feeling it might have been into the high 7's.

 

Sounds about right for ~300 whp. My car was around that (actually less, around 290 whp) on a dynojet when I posted something like 8.6 @ 86 mph. You can see the slip and dyno graph in the link in my sig. 1/8 mile results are really dependent on your launch, moreso than for 1/4 mile... I could use a lot more practice launching myself Were you getting wheel hop? If you were running street tires that could be a big problem too breaking stuff. What were your 60' times?

 

yeah, i had alot of wheel hop, plus my driver side rear strut was bad. my 60' was @ 2.157. My launches suck right now..lol. I'm hoping that the banzai diff brace will help also. I was having issues every other run with 3rd gear, it was being a b'tch. i heard a trans brace could help remedy that issue.

They are having another event on the 21st if you want to roll down there with me. i'm hoping to have a friend or someone there also that has a trailer..lol, just in case.

If i go to that event, i will have some video for sure. my camera kept acting dumb. every time i would launch, it would turn off. its probably because its a harddrive cam. idk.
