my 90 TII killed by a 22psi 06 sti
I got killed just a while ago by a 2006 sti. We went from a 15-20mph roll. we go at it about the same time, I picked up a second slower because of the low rpms and his low end power kicked in right away. But we were head to head and I throw it to 2nd gear and pull on him half a car, then shift into third and he starts pulling, and by the time we are at 110mph, he had a 3 car lead on me and still pulling. Sorry to tell such a sad story, but hey I think I did ok against a 22psi sti. he claims its all stock but is boosting 22psi and he told me stock is at 15. My mods are below. I think with 12 psi and 3" Full Exhaust, it should be mine, right? Now I'm really gonna get a full exhaust, I was gonna save up for my custom setup with hks downpipe, racing beat presilencer, and mazdaspeed catback, but I guess now I will go for a used 3" Full Turboback Racing Beat Exhaust for now. how much hp should an 06 sti have with 22 psi?

22psi and only 3 lengths at 110?? That's be the pretty close to the end of his 1/4 on a stock motor... If this happened exactly like it was told this T2 would have to be a 13 second car, seeing as how the STI is a 13 second car from the factory and with an extra 7 psi is possibly a 12 second car..... Either that or his T2 IS a 14 second car, the STI doesn't have 22psi and has a horrible driver. Am I in no way saying this didin't happen! Good race! I'm sure you gained some confidence out of it! Just like me when I raced a C6 Z06 in my FD and stayed even thru 3 gears =) ...

well my 04 sti came stock with 14.5 psi and fuel cut was at 17psi so he was probably bullshitting you if he told you 22psi but who knows they might have changed a few things....

well this guy is talking to my sister, so i would doubt he is bullshitting. I told him all my mods and said i am most likely gonna lose, so i really dont think he would lie. He is all stock from what he told me, with stock exhaust. I did see his boost controller on his dash. The thing is we raced from a roll. we actually raced a 2nd time from a dig, and he took me 1 - 1 1/2 cars on me so add that to 3 cars. 4-4.5 cars, but then i really dont know, because I missed shift 2nd gear. Either way, i think i did pretty good. I havent ran the 1/4 mile yet, but I beat a stock s2000 and 99-05 mustang gt with exhaust, so im somewhere around low 14's im guessing. I also beat a 95 Eclipse GST from with basic bolt-ons by half a car from a roll when I was boosting stock 7.5 psi. Anyways, now that my nice loving girl(who hates my car) is gonna help me paint my car back to crystal white next month, I will have funds for a Full exhaust. I will be sure to record it when the time comes. and i will also be racing a 5.0 mustang putting down 250whp after he breaks in his rebuilt motor. i will have vids up coming up as soon as i get my full exhaust and up the boost to 12psi, and maybe get a custom FMIC. Stay tuned and thanks for the comments.

I have tuned some imprezas in my life , and I can asure you that with 10psi of boost you can beat a 16psi STI , I have an FD3s , ported and with lots of mods , I whent to a track day a few months ago and I try to race with a 16 Psi Impreza STI that I tuned it, and he was a lilte bit faster than me. I'm not telling that your story is not true , but I'm just telling you that that STI was bery bad tuned or it was a bad driver.
I'm going to a single configuration now with all the mods just to beat an Impreza WRX 1999 (thanks God that you don't have that car in USA) 1200Kgs and almoust the same engine that the STI 2005 , with all the mods , and again tuned by me.
It is much more fast than a lots of cars that are in the street.

thats great news about your paint and exhaust, have your sourced a used RB yet? And i thought it was fast when i took a ride, now i guess you'll really be getting on it with no exhaust restrictions. oh, and about my clutch, im still buying a few other things so its still a couple items down the list, right after my new pre cat. it will prolly be a whole clutch kit, not sure if ill get ACT or exedy, any suggestions?

the usdm sti ecu is great at adapting to mods but i don't know about running 22psi on stock fuel. there is a reason subaru has fuel cut at 17psi, and yes the only way he can run 22psi is have a fuel cut defenser. i would talk to your sister about this guy, hes a bad driver and an idiot.

I've ran the pre '06 STis at the drag and on the highway before. On the drag they destroy me on my launch, but top of 1st they wouldnt pull on me anymore.
On the highway its a diff story. Ran a STi from 20mph roll. by about 110mph i was about 2 cars ahead. Funny thing is that he was so sure that he was going to win, he actually waved "bye bye". My friends from behind said he was shooting orange/blue flames and i was shooting orange flames. I know he had exhaust, and intake, possibly more boost. His turbo was really loud.
O, I ran a 13.7 w/ my current mods except i had a Blitz BOV(not really performance)

well, without an actual tune, upping the boost on a stock sti will almost always result in only bad things. if he had a custom (*not cobb stage 1) reflash on the stock parts, he could pick up about 25whp... if he custom (*not cobb stage 2) reflashed on a turboback, he can put down between 300-310whp with near 20psi, but tapering down to 14-15psi as the turbo runs out of breath.
*the cobb "stage" reflashes are pretty conservative off the shelf so you wont get the gains you will from retuning with a cobb street/pro-tuner or ecutec.

after thinking about how the sti looked, I asked the guy and looked on the pics and it obviously was a 05. sorry for the confusion. sources say that the 06 runs 13.0 and the 04-05 runs 13.5. This might explain why it wasnt as bad as some thought. sorry for the confusion. well, im getting my rb exhaust in 2-3 weeks, and will be upping the boost to 12psi and might boost 14psi. so the rematch is in hand.

My dad's '04 STi with a standard COBB Stage 2 and a downpipe hits 20-21PSi before tapering to 14-18PSi (depending on gear, load, ect.). Fuel cut is 22PSi, IIRC, with the AccessPORT Stage 2 93 Octane tune. Of course, you can always call COBB up and have them make you a custom tune running however much boost you want. Heh.
