After several lights of just being stuck behind traffic I finally got my chance to find out exactly how well my new toy performs from a dig. This red Mustang Mach 1 had been revving and peeling out for several blocks of stop and go traffic, and I had just been dying to get next to him, and finally a light changed and both of us came to a halt next to each other.

"You aren't actually going to try to race me are you?" shouted the guy from the Mustang with a smirk on his face. "Maybe" I replied. He just laughed and we waited for the light to change.

On green I heard his Magnaflow exhaust rip through the relative silence of the night. I quickly gave my car more than enough gas, and got thrown into my seat as the AWD didn't let a single hp go to waste. The Mustang was so far behind by 3rd gear that I just let off and slowed to the speed limit.

At the next light we were behind traffic and we were able to chat for a couple minutes. He asked me if it was an Evo 8 and when I told him it was a 9 he was shocked. He said he had never heard of it, and when he saw the different bumpers he thought I was a regular Lancer in disguise. Another domestic guy received an education tonight. I <3 my Evo(and my 7 ).

 

Good deal. Before I sold my stock CYM I met up with two buddies. One had a H/C, full bolt-on 01 Mustang GT that has run 12.6s on slicks and 04 Mach 1 that had Flowmasters and some kind of an intake mod. We went 4 wide with my buddies stock 04 350Z from a 15 roll and I walked the Mach 1 and the 350Z pretty handily, but only lost to the GT by about a car length or so. It was pretty close. The Mach 1s are pretty fast in stock trim. They're about on par with a stock LS-1 F body.

i hope A) that your car is not stock or B) the driver of the mach doesnt know how to drive or C) it was actually a GT. mach's are fast a ****... theyve got the cobra motor minus the super charger. ive got 2 buddies with mach's. one is bone stock and one has a gear, and a cold air intake. ive driven around with both of them and flat out killed lancers, supras, wrx's, you name it its beatin it... cept for a 240 around here that weve never seen before... that mother effer raped us.... and the only reason the 240 beat us (we pulled in at the gas station and talked) was that his car was ungodly built... never seen a turbo that huuuuuge before in my life...

 

Mach 1's are running mid to low 13's at BEST. Evo IX's are running high 12's at BEST. Launching an AWD turbo car on a freezing night is easier and better than launching RWD in the same conditions. What's not to believe? That he can't launch like a bat out of hell on the street and I can isn't a surprise. It's not like we were on a prepped track measured out exactly to 1/4 mile and he had slicks.

Also, do you not realize that IX's are putting down 270AWHP on a regular basis? Yeah, that's around the same as the Mach 1, but I have A)Traction and B) Less weight.

I know what a Mach 1 looks like, and he definitely had one with the fancy paint and shaker hood and all. If he was a GT that went through all the trouble of looking like a Mach 1 then he could have just bought one.

 

If this post was directed towards me, then yes, my car is stock and yes I did infact race a drop in filter and flowmasters Mach 1. And yes, I spoke to the owner who said he clearly didn't stand a chance and from a 15 roll I put about 2, almost 3 cars on him. I think I may even have video of it if I dig through some of my tapes, but I'm not sure if the video shows the Mach 1 because we left the Mach 1 behind us and I think the camera is directed more towards the race between the H/C/gears, etc Mustang GT and I. If I have the video and it shows the Mach 1, i'll put it up on Streetfire.
