FD vs Mustang Mach 1

So me and the GF are our way home from the movies. We encounter on the freeway a yellow Mach 1 03-04? (the previous model from the retro mustang). And he begins to pace me. He sounds modified, a little throaty in comparison to ther Mach 1's that I've seen around here. He has rims and some gauges too. Ok let's do a run

I push the high boost button on my profec B (12 psi). We line up at 65 MPH and he nails it and so do I. My non-seq turbos spool and I start to pass him with ease. I shut down at the begining of 4th and about two car lenghts ahead. So he was modified and rather quick for a N/A car. I've raced other Mach 1's before and stock they don't even have a prayer.

A couple of minutes pass and he lines up again (and I'm thinking again?). ok this time we do an 80 MPH roll. I punche it first this time... Then he nails it, and that's all she wrote: His rear end sunked down (@ 80 MPH) and just pulled on me like a mad man! Left my *** standing still! Even my GF said WTF??? I just kinda laughed as I was a little baffeled. But I thought about for a sec or two and said "it's gotta be nitrous". So she asked "how can you tell", "Well his car was a completely different beast than a minute ago, and I can't hear a supercharger on that car so it does not have one. Even if it did have it, does not explain why his car was such a dog before because it not like you can switch between high and low boost like me. So the most likely culprit is N2O. Meh!"

Win some lose some So I lined up next to him again and I gave him a wave, he waved back and we continued on our merry way. Overall I don't feel bad at all because he thought he could get me the first time with no bottle. But wrong! Maybe I should have done a long run and have his bottle run out so he goes back to slow while me I can boost 12 psi all day.

First time for everything,be careful, there are alot of Mach1's sporting 03 motors(atleast the blowers) and putting down stupid numbers while looking and in some cases sounding stock.

yeah lose win some

Losing to another car can be a good thing... Now I'm really itching for larger injectors and a twin power so I can boost up to 15 psi safely. That and a lightened flywheel outa get me close to 350 RWHP (I'b be happy with 330 though ).

Speaking of losing being a good thing a few years back I war about to race a 3000gt. Well we're getting ready to line up and "woot, woot" red and blue's like WHOA. He stopped and I hauled *** all the way home. Needless to say I was scared for a few days

currently are you a student in USD?

I went there last year to visit some girlfriends of mine and attended the illegal racing there. Saw a black supra and is that one of your friends?

I dunno it's like they don't think about the long term effects of their stupidity. As for exhuast I don't think N/A RX7 owners are much different...lol..j/k

tell me about it.

On Sunday nights the "street racers" gather in a parking lot which is on the same street that I exit off the freeway to go home. They race somewhere in the vicinity. Anyway lately I have gotten pulled over 3 times as I am on my way home. Interesting enough they have all been on Sunday...

Though anything is possible on the street, I really doubt that he had a turbo in it.

First no BOV and no turbo lag whatsoever. I have actually come acrosst a first gen mustang that was turbo charged and let me tell you it was obvious. That kind of power is very hard to hide with the sounds coming out of it.

Second have you ever seen the set up for a turbo charged newer mustang? It's not the most practical way to go since there are superchargers readily available. And it ain't cheap either... They are like 7k

If this car was next to you I'd sure hope that you would notice that it's a long way from stock: Notice the BOV's and size of turbos...

I'll second that. We have a guy rolling around here in a previous gen Stang with a turbo, and there is no way in hell you'd mistake the car for an N/A.

Montego - nothing to be ashamed of. Look at the circumstances, he picked you out deliberately. Anyone who is half-way intelligent (ricers...well, enough said) usually won't pick on an FD unless they KNOW they can 'handle' them.

If he was indeed running nitrous, he could have had a problem with it on the first run. A co-worker has a '67 Camaro with a built 327 that puts out nearly 400 hp without the bottle, and has a 125 shot nitrous system. I have ridden with him on several occasions and his nitrous system just doesn't work about half the time, and it just ***** him up when it doesn't....lol!

There are a couple of 'Stangs in this area that are just DEADLY, but you know it from just listening to it. One car has a (reported) 468 hp "race" engine in it and it is just flat awesome! I've watched him ****-and-git a few times, and as you say it just squats down on its haunches and ******* FLIES! This guy races 'Busas and just kills them!

A lightweight flywheel won't affect rwhp, although it will help your acceleration quite a bit in the lower gears.

You definitely need to look into more boost.....on my profec, my low boost setting is 15 psi and my high boost is 18

good kill/death man

he was on nitrous.... most mach I guys are, atleast the ones at my track are lol. they respond ridiculously well to the spray. full bolt ons and cams make very impressive numbers. on slicks with all the bolt ons they will do mid high 12's at near 108-110mph.
100-150shots puts them bottom 12's from stock and into the 11's with all the bolt ons.

man I forgot about this thread

well the way I see a lightweight flywheel is that it decreases the amount of work dispensed in turning my wheels. Therefore increases HP to the wheels. Now I'd figured that it would make the most difference on the top gears due to the lack of torque which has the most to benefit from by the decrease in inertia.
